I recently graduated from a data science program and am looking to get some experience in the form of an internship. I had been working full-time as a teacher while also studying full-time so my portfolio isn’t the greatest. My question is, coming from a career that isn’t in tech and with little experience how can I make myself stand out more? More personal projects? More certifications? I’m hoping to get one before the summer.

How long off on internship does everyone move on to find new jobs? I’m in my internship for around 6 months now and I don’t know if I should just move on.

Am I being fairly compensated?

I’m 25 (male) with collectively 4 years of accounting experience. I have a masters in data analytics and am working in manufacturing. I am also working towards a CPA. I make 67k base with possible year un bonuses. (<3k)

I have worked at two companies so far (one for 3 years as an intern then staff and the other for a little over a year as a staff). The first company was very small they took me seriously and I thrived. I left that company for the (see thread)

Currently making a career switch from teaching to something in accounting. I’m graduating with my Master’s in Accounting in December.. I just wanted to ask for advise to see what a smart move would be from here? Should I get an internship? Should I jump into a full time position? Do firms hire students full time?

So tired of interns who speak like partners and act like they are on top of the world. On our status call today, our intern literally asked our staff “why did it take you a day to finish this cuz I can do it within an hour” (which turned out to be a false statement), and when our senior said she’s gonna create a task for EP sign-offs, our intern asked if she could do the same for him so that it’s easier for him to navigate through the work papers. OMG

Situation: I have a MBB and Amazon PMT offer for summer internship that I need to choose. MBB comes with FT offer, Amazon PMT will most likely result in return offer. If I go with MBB, I plan to exit to big Tech in 2-3 years. Y1 TC for both will be quite similar (around 230k).

Who here is in their early 40s? We have gone through so much to get here. Multiple failed attempts and miscarriages. Finally I'm pregnant and with twins. I'm so happy but I'm also scared and freaking out a little. I am wondering is this bc we are old :( i cant stop calculating that when my kid is 10 I'll be almost 55 while all my friends will have kids in college :( I've known I wanted this but feeling like was I crazy to keep trying at this age.

Just got off a Psychiatry call with the VA discussing my long running PTSD, anxiety and medication options; both over the counter and other.

The majority of my experiences with the VA the last several years has been a dumpster fire, but every now and again one person comes along and restores my faith in that system. Solid dude.

Perspective. I’m retiring from the service and I’ve positioned myself decently to be competitive. I have a graduate degree pursuing a doctorate, LSSBB, ScrumMaster, SPHR, and PMI-ACP. I’ve been offered two positions that are great and on the human capital team. For someone in this situation where should I be looking as commensurate with my certifications and experience?

Vets using Tricare with a family. I’m out and can use Tricare with the VA, but my wife and I each use our company offerings for our family; which obviously come at cost. Is it worth it to switch to Tricare? Has anyone done this and can share details? Positives/negatives?

My Dad (USMA grad from 70's) is outright "old school" and doesn't equate women to men. As a mom to a daughter and decorated combat vet, this kills me when he makes sexist comments. My sister (legal VP in her co) and I tend to ignore it as it's exhausting to correct every time. But when it comes out, it irritates the crap out of me. I’ve had this conversation with numerous peers; that’s both people I knew from the military who transitioned to consulting, and people I didn’t know in other branches who I’ve worked with. I’d like to ask opinions on what we bring up as being the stark difference in the transition; being a manger doesn’t mean you know how to manage. We can feel undervalued and underutilized (sometimes elder to Mgrs) while constantly asking for more, but by our junior positions we’re left frustrated. Thoughts?
