I’m so sorry to hear this. Have you tried making a business case for this. You’ll have to maybe go the extra mile by carefully constructing your history of supporting the company through milestones, give context, timeline then write a summary on why promoting you is good for the future of your company. Fight for that raise and promotion. Sometimes it takes some putting it down on paper in a professional report format titled: “Business case for promoting a long-time working mother employee into leadership: good for the company, the bottom line and metrics and visibility in supporting D&I initiatives” is what it takes. Don’t leave it to the company heads to spell it out and reward you. Do it yourself and ask for more than you wanted initially because you realize you’re selling the power of you. Now go sell the business case of promoting you there!

I understand your frustration. When you take leave everything pauses. I would revisit your employee handbook to verify . Typically ANY leave that is taken puts a pause on everything (promo, raise, bonus, PTO, tenure, etc. ) Have you had a chance to talk to your direct manager about how things will progress when you return? Also, what one company won’t do, another will you may have a wee bit of time as baby gets older to explore opportunities outside of your current company.

Not true! I have a friend at a firm who is also on leave and got promoted. The increase is reflected in her pay while on leave.

Good for her!

Hey! Really appreciate you taking the time to respond. In my country it is discriminatory and illegal to do this, it is the company's actions that delayed the process. I agree about looking at other opportunities however I would want something exciting, like worth leaving for, in order to bother changing. Thank you!

Wow following so sorry you are going through this. Kind of in a similar place

Hey, I am kinda in a similar position, my manager (in 2020) told me he would promote me however it doesn't make sense to do so just because I would be on maternal leave for a year. It's been 4 months I have rejoined and during the last year I now have a new manager so dont really know whom to approach and discuss this with.

Sorry its happening to you too. I hope you manage to advocate for yourself. This is also what concerns me.

We recently had our 20 week scan and our OB brought up that the baby had a small hole in their heart. She’s mentioned since this is isolated and not coupled with anything it shouldn’t be a concern at all and the hole will naturally fill out. She promised that we won’t see this in the 30 week ultrasound. I can’t help but be worried! This didn’t happen with our first. Has anyone experienced this in their 20 week scan?

I have worked in FS for the past seven years at Deloitte, focusing on tech transformation. Has anyone made a similar move? If so how did you find moving from being a specialist to a generalist across multiple industries? What is it like working at Bain compared to Deloitte in terms of people, hours and enjoyment? I’m a mid-level working in a niche area in NYC. I like the work I do, put in long hours, high quality work, take time to mentor juniors, etc. I see myself at a law firm long term but now wondering if this is the right firm to make partner.
