Hey y’all: currently weighing the benefits of obtaining an MBA. Started career with 2.5 years of corporate FP&A, then moved to Senior Consultant at a high growth Mgt Consulting firm (1.5 years in). I’ve seen roles back in industry require (interchangeably) MBA or 2-year management consulting experience. Are MBAs helpful/necessary for consultants...just to have one? Should it be more purpose-driven? Etc.

Following thread bc I have the same question in the back of my head. first thought though - grad school seems like a bad option right now (covid) as much of the value of attending a grad program seems to be the network (Ie best to wait for more in person normalcy)

Not unless your in strategy. Also consider the additional debt you'll take on since you cannot count on funding being guaranteed through grants and such. MBAs aren't worth it if you don't have the name recognition from a big name school imo, and even then...

Great read, thanks for sharing

More purpose driven. MBAs are not cheap.

Given your circumstances, I would stay at my firm. Most people get their MBA to pivot or feel like they’re stuck at their level and can’t get promo.

Great input, thanks 🐠. Cost isn’t as big a concern for me (thankfully). I guess the question is if there more value in 5-10 years driven from an MBA or should the focus be on investing that extra time/effort in growing vertically within my firm (which I plan on being at for foreseeable future)

I'll be graduating soon in Fall'22 and preparing for Data Scientist role. Please recommend some online resources to prepare from.

If I accept the promotion to Partner/Principal what's the least number of years I could work without it being a financial mistake. I have an opportunity to do something completely unrelated that's my passion, but I feel like that's the wrong decision when I'm this close.

The other opportunity should still be there for 2-3 years

I’ve been interviewing for new positions to leave PA. But in my current position, we’ve been adding quite a few new projects (and our team is partner, two staff, and me) that will probably start over the next couple of months. I don’t think my boss has any idea I’m looking to leave - anything I should do to not feel guilty about potentially leaving them short staffed with a ton of work? Is this something you think about when looking to leave?
