5 designers / ~70 people total at my company

Work in a SMB consultancy (product design / engineering). Report to head of design. Team is mostly all senior / higher.

Question for anyone who’s done VC and PE: how does diligence rigor compare for a $20mm venture investment (revenue generating, but early stage) vs buyout? I know VC doesnt have the resources or expectationto go as deep, but any color on number of hours?

I’m currently working in insurance customer service at an agency. I work in the mortgage department assisting w mortgage changes , payments etc. I’ve been thinking about becoming a claims adjuster most likely for property damage . Is it worth it ??? I hear a lot of talk about how claims adjusting is a lot of work and very demanding but I think my current position has prepared me for the challenge. What are some good companies I maybe should apply for after getting my license?

Is the saying “man of the house” sexist?

I’ll be promoted next year to senior but I’m in a niche role where I don’t see myself long term. Should I make a job switch now or should I wait to get promoted to senior? I currently have 1.5 years of experience.

If you see an open job posting at a company you want to work for, what steps do you take to apply? I’ve been told that cold applying and making no contacts is usually not going to lead to anything, and that’s been true in my experience. But should I reach out to someone first? Should i apply and then email someone? In HR? Or someone who’d be directly supervising me? Or someone at my level? And what should i say? Thanks!

Anyone out there who left their previous job for a new one have any advice or life experience to share? I’ve been thinking about it for months but currently feel comfortable in my job/the products I work on. I’d say I have a great work/life balance but I do know that I could be making 20-30% more and have better benefits if I left. I also feel a bit stagnant in my job but the job security has kept me put. Would love to hear if leaving a comfortable job for more money is always worth it.

I quit my old job but am working PT for them till they find a replacement. Apparently they could not get a refund on a flight they booked me and my manager is asking if (not me, but I can see it in Teams) I can reimburse for the ticket. It’s $800, anyone know if this is legal?

I want to put together a XD file with a whole bunch of helpful web and app components for other designers to just drag and drop. 1. Is this a waste of time due to the market being saturated? 2. Where do I sell it? 3. Is there anything I need to know first?

I’ve been interviewing with Google since July. Passed the first interview but the team I was matched with ended up hiring someone else. Recruiter told me that she will let me know if any other opportunities arise as I’m still in the running and haven’t been rejected. I know that interviewing with google is a long process but I’m worried the longer I wait the more likely I will be rejected or just never hear back. Anyone else in this situation? How long until you got an offer?

I started out as a graphic designer. Worked for about 4yrs in different roles. Then i started a digital design role for 2 yrs and then made my transition into ux. i have been in a ux role for 5 years. But i want to steer my career towards something more creative. Like in 5-10 years I wouldn’t want to be a specialist or a ux director. I d like to be an art director or creative director. I love branding & marketing but also product. Would love something that allows me to do both?
