This! Thank you for this, Manager 1. Detailed and insightful!
I went from Training to Recruiting and have never looked back (my role still provides the opportunity to be involved with training and informal coaching from time to time, which is nice). I had a brief stint in an HR generalist role during the recession (retained during layoffs so I absorbed others' jobs), and discovered that I don't excel as a generalist.
It took many years into my career to arrive at the realization that I have a specialist personality--like being an expert in one or two areas, but don't do well switching gears all the time. I suggest you spend some time exploring that for yourself before making a career shift. In the old days, reading What Color is your Parachute was helpful. More recently, StrengthsFinder and other personality assessments have been enlightening (none of them are 100% gospel truth, but I still find them helpful).
Good luck!
Chief
I feel benefits can be very people oriented depending on the company.
Well that depends on where your interests lie. There's plenty to choose from depending on what you do best, like training and development, recruitment and hiring, benefits, disciplinary actions, or managing company culture. Take your pick.
What are your interests and passion, OP? What about your career goals? Training and recruitment are great options.
