What counts as operational experience in a startup context? I am a data scientist interested in VC in the long run. After a year or two as Lead DS, I plan to do a stint in a startup. Would it be better to pursue roles with more of a lean towards bizops vs hands-on engineering, if the end goal is a tech-focused fund like a16z?

I am trying to make an effort to be more mindful, learn to disconnect, de stress and live in the moment more so than run after a never ending todo list. Any suggestions on where to begin ?

Crossposted. Looking for advice. I’ve got 10+ years as an attorney and have been trying to go in house for over a year. I have a generalist background (although I’m primarily a litigator) and was a partner at an Amlaw 100 firm. I’ve had my resume reviewed and keep getting great feedback. Not getting many interviews and when I do, I’m not getting offers despite positive interviews. How do I differentiate myself? Should I get some sort of certification or specialty? This is getting depressing.

For all you young guns just getting started, here is a very very useful piece of advice. Just because you have rapport with someone does mean not they are your friend, or even rooting for you. Make your moves in silence, tell your ideas only to your boss’s boss and never undervalue sitting silently in a meeting.
