Hi all, how would you rate ACN work-life balance - considering an offer... I’m based in Europe

Stay away from Accenture, wlb sucks, most SM or MD would force u to project work even on weekend and ur not compensated and can't charge overtime. Even there is a policy of HR for not ghosting ur hours. Everyone just brush off the wlb thing. Specially with all the call center surge u have to work including holidays

like

A1 sounds annoyed. And misinformed: there is overtime below certain career levels.

WLB is what you make it. When I joined (through an acquisition) a wise head told me that the firm will take everything you give it, so you need to set your own limits.

The firm doesn't even always do this deliberately. I'm in a cross market consulting/SME role. On any given day my inbox contains more requests for info, credentials, meetings, help with pitches, whatever, than I can deal with. So every day I have to choose who to piss off by ignoring, or else I'll never sleep.

Of course, a normal person looking from the outside with a 9-5 would say i work insane hours and have terrible WLB.

I remember a chat at a table of MDs and SMs up on the terrace outside at some office or other, I think it was maybe in Rome, on a Saturday as we had a coffee break during all-weekend prep for something or other. All of us away from home. The topic of the work level came up. One of the folks there said after many many years in accenture he'd come to the firm conviction that we do all the hours and work like this because we want to. We choose it. We enjoy it. If we didn't, there are plenty of other jobs out there and we could leave. But we don't, because ... see previous.

A1 sounds pissed lol. I'm in Europe and the WLB is literally what you make of it imo. it course it depends on what project you're on and who your project lead is i guess, especially if you're more junior.. but I've had months where i intentionally decided to go full on on BDs on top of my projects because i needed it for my promo story, where i worked my ass off every day for about three months, of course WLB was shit but it paid off.. and at times when my health wasn't so great I've also chosen to do the bare minimum which gave me a great wlb and a chance to recuperate. Anyway the WLB in Europe is so much better than in the states in general, and i think the ACN culture really enables you to scale down or up depending on your needs/wishes. if you haven't found out a good way to do that yet then it just means you haven't become aware enough of your own capabilities/worth and have not figured out yet how to leverage that assertively and convincingly.

Depends heavily on role and project I would say. I’ve got a project where I work about 20-30 hours a week, and then 40-50 during busy weeks

If your law firm has no attorneys who are female or people of color, I’m not referring cases to your firm. It’s 2020, do better. Diversity needs to stop being seen as “a nice thing to have” and it needs to be necessary to stay in business. Diverse perspectives are how law firms succeed, I want to see more firms that understand that.

First time home buyer here. I’m trying to buy by summer and in a super hot market where literal shacks are starting to climb more than half a mil. I don’t have enough upfront cash for 20% down, and lots of folks say you need an agent to represent you to make you look more serious in the buy. My question (more like a plea) is this: should I even bother and how?
