Check HR. If you don’t want to call or email them, look on internal firm page. And take the leave. It’s 2021 not 1955.

I would also be surprised if an AmLaw 100 firm does not have a parental leave policy. You may want to check the state laws on parental leave for where where you live/work too.

like

I would hope an Amlaw 100 would have some kind of parental leave policy….was that not provided with benefits information when you got the offer?

like

The benefits package didn’t specifically state one way or another regarding parental leave. Thought it was interesting for it to be silent on the topic. Maybe so they have some flexibility on the matter?? I’m bringing it up this week and hopefully they consider a small amount of time out as acceptable.

Highly likel y they have a policy. Warning, you won't be eligible for FMLA and who knows if you'll be eligible for whatever firm benefits there are. That said, most decent companies extend at least some portion of their benefits to new hires. My company (in house) has, on numerous occasions, given full maternity/paternity benefits to people just starting (including 3 months paid).

That’s a positive outlook. I honestly likely wouldn’t even want to use the whole term if that’s the case. Ill keep this in mind!

My firm didn’t have a policy. My partner said he didn’t care when I worked the hours as long as they were done. They let me work from home and are understanding of time off for doctors appointments and sick kids time. It could have been better but it could have been a lot worse. Congratulations!!

That’s helpful. Thanks for sharing.

First year here at midsize. What to do if I ask for work but none is given. the past few days I’ve had 1-3 billable hours too. Apparently it’s slow for some ppl. There was also some lay offs as well.. Wonder if I should also start looking at jobs now just in case.

First year here as a general staff accountant. Midsize. Been asking scheduling for work but only managed to get 10 hours of billable work last week doing a couple 1040s... I also ask around yet everyone says they’re fine. It’s still considered busy season here since I’m at midsize and it feels wrong not hitting atleast 40 billable hours. It would suck if I got laid off cause of it. 🥴

How easy is it to settle a case when working at a plaintiff’s firm? (Please excuse my lack of knowledge here.) I read about how much people hate litigation/are trying to get out and then I have friends who talk about how they want to go to the plaintiff’s side because you can make a percentage of your settlements AND there are no billable requirements. I’m in the former boat of trying to leave litigation altogether to go into corporate law. Is it all just “the grass is greener” talk?

How do you guys schedule your hours? Say I need to hit 200 hours per month. Currently I take the amount of working days in a month (M-F) and divide it by 200 to get how many hours I need to bill per day. For example, May has 20 working days, so I need to bill 10hrs./day M-F. I’ve done exactly that thus far and have been able to stick to a pretty consistent schedule. But I know a lot work on weekends. For instance, if I worked Saturdays too there are 25 billable days which means 8hrs/day.

My law firm gives me a report that breaks down the amount of billable hours collected compared to how much I’ve been paid on a monthly basis. Does anyone else’s firm do this? At what point do you think it’s acceptable to ask for a bonus/raise?

If you don’t make your billable hours requirement at your firm, are you ineligible for a bonus? It seems strange that if you bill 1899 hours, you get no bonus, but if you bill 1901 hours, you could get a bonus of 10% of your salary. Asking because I’m at 93% of my billable requirement.

I joined a very prominent midsized firm back in fall which gave me almost no billable work for the first 2 months. The firms are the same type of law, but the smaller firm has less billable requirements and is offering higher salary/better bonus structure as well as more independence such as ability to completely run own case load.

Can anyone share the salary breakup for HSBC for 12LPA or any other package. I have HR round to be scheduled in next week. Need screenshot to understand the breakup, so that I can negotiate based on the basic and Variable pay.

Nothing makes you want to quit more than your time being so unclaimable that you have half hour interviews needing to be cancelled/rescheduled minutes before they start on Fridays. Byproduct of 75% turnover on all my teams last year. Freaking trapped the headcount loss is so bad. Bonuses better be spectacular - I could envision people quitting without jobs even lined up.
