Hi All,

I have 2 years of Indian experience as a Data Analyst .I have knowledge of tools like Sql,Tableau,Excel and Python. I have recently moved to Toronto Canada. My dream job is to become a Data Scientist. I am looking for jobs right now as a Data analyst. Do you feel I should take time off from job hunt and work on gaining more skills to apply for Data scientist positions??
Should I enrol myself into a school(if so please suggest) ? OR should I just get a job as a Data Analyst??

Start going to networking events. Meet people. Be helpful and friendly. Have a good resume site or LinkedIn to send them to. Add everyone you meet on LinkedIn and follow up with email for any good leads.

Make friends, keep your skills sharp. Maybe build something with someone or on your own for your portfolio

I also wouldn’t phrase it as “Indian experience.” Just say you have experience in those softwares/programs. Definitely focus on networking with Canadian people. Tobi Oluwole is a guy I follow on LinkedIn because I like his content, but he is based in Canada and posts a lot about Canadian business. Definitely a great person to follow for career advancement! Best of luck!

^just start marketing yourself and get to work on finding relevant connections/networks so you can get a more concise route to that “dream job” of yours

In Australia they often expect you to get a qualification here, even if it's a 6 month grad cert. It's sort of a way of proving your language competence and cultural fit.
Take any role as your first role. Employers are scared to take new arrivals. You'll find it much easier to get your second job.

Network as much as you can and if you can do some pro Bono work to get what Canadian employers call "Canadian Experience". That will be your biggest hurdle but since you are already in Toronto attend as many networking events as possible and stay ready. Best of luck to you.
