Hi all! I just transitioned to an in house litigation position at the end of November. I’m very much still adjusting to this non-billable life (loving it so far). Is it normal for a litigation management position to be a little slow this time of year? I can’t tell if I’m just not used to being out of litigation or if I need to find ways to make myself more useful, even if I am getting all my work done. TIA!

I’m in a similar position and things are a little slower right now (it’s great, I’m catching up on things!). One of the few luxuries of a position like this - no one likes to schedule mediations or hearings just before the holidays.

When I started in my role I literally did almost nothing for a month or two. I poked around company wikis and did some other things but mostly I chilled. Enjoy it and don’t stress!

It’s not the time of year. You are new and your clients barely know you exist. They will most likely find you in short order.

I want details of how you snagged this type of role. My search has not been successful so far. Also, congrats. Enjoy the slow roll without the misery of billing time.

like

I got the role through my great network! I was referred into the company. Knowing someone really helped get my foot into the door, and be able to relate my prior experience with the needs of the role did the rest. Good luck on your search!

Very very normal. I’ve been in my position for a year and a half and absent a few one-offs people are preparing for the holiday so it’s nice to have down time!

In a similar position and yes it’s slow. Enjoy it

It's normal for almost all in-house and government functions to be slow. You're at the crossroads of both of those functions, so lots of slowness this time of year.

Spend the time bringing yourself up to speed on important matters, reading about the company, finishing any onboarding, and setting small goals.

I'm not litigation, but I'm about 2 months ahead on my docket because almost everyone has checked out the week of Thanksgiving, but I plug along. That way, when something inevitably hits the fan, I don't have to work 60 hour weeks to make up for it, I just keep plugging at 40 hours with a minor setback eating away at my build up from this time of the year.

That’s great advice, thank you!
