Do you max out Roth first or 401K? And why?
Hello all! I have my first interview tomorrow with the hiring manager at Transunion for the “customer success consultant position” it’s remote, but I would be working out of Tampa, FL. Do any of you do this job currently? Or did you in the past? Can you tell me about the day to day? Or the hiring process? How many interviews it is etc? Tomorrow is my first interview, it’s a 30 minute phone screen. I’m assuming it will be quick and easy! TransUnion @

That is really everything I can think of. I would for sure ask if the position would ever changed or if you would ever be expected to be in the office.
Thank you! Position would be fully remote. I would have to make about 4 trips a year for important meetings, that's all.
Just make sure that's all locked down in writing somewhere before you sign. Don't let them make you empty promises. Your list seems pretty comprehensive.
I didn't think about this. Thank you.
Is the job remote or contract? These are two very different things. If it's just remote, but you'll be employed by a company as a W-2 employee, then the concerns over insurance and taxes probably aren't warranted as those are typically covered/sponsored/handled by your employer. That would really just leave the logistics, like equipment and relocation. Make a list of everything you're curious about and ask the recruiter. That way you'll be going into the role with eyes wide open.
The job is not a contract. I'd be a regular full time employee. But like the other person said, the job is based in a state different from where I live, that's why I thought about asking the tax question. I do like your suggestion regarding making a list to ask. Thank you!
Benefits for sure, but also what the remote culture is like - i.e., are meetings mostly camera on/camera off, are teams meeting in person at all ever, or is there an expectation of that etc? I feel like a lot of people got offered remote roles that slowly started to become hybrid once they accepted
This is important, thank you. Another thing your comment made me think of is asking if I'm expecting to "punch in" like letting someone know I'm up and working, etc.
Commenting to follow, since I'm currently interviewing for a remote position as well. But I feel you have most of the basics covered.
I work remotely and we get a supplies and internet allowance. Don’t know if you would like to inquire. Just putting it out there.
Internet. Thank you for suggesting, I'll make note or that.
Confirm whether they will provide you compensation for your internet use or whatever phone you will be using while at home for business use - ex. Personal cell phone.
I'm a remote employee and my company let's me expense up to $50 a month for internet, they gave me a work cell phone, work laptop. You should ask about a printer, expensing ink/supplies/ paper if pertinent to your role. I can expense for mileage reimbursement as well if I need to go to the office or do anything out of the house work related. Talk to your tax person if standard vs itemized deduction will help you because you'll need to keep track of things like utilities because if you itemize you'll be able to claim a percentage of these costs with your home office. Good luck!
This is amazing advice. Thank you!
401k match is an important one as well
Is there any kind of additional payment to purchase items needed like desk/chair and other supplies?
Usually you'll only pay state taxes where you reside. I'd ask about flexibility in schedule if the time zones are different. I would also ask about productivity. How is it tracked? What is the standard?
Make sure they have a tight policy on document destruction and or retention. I worked for a CRO that audited and did home office visits to remote workers to evaluate document management practices bc of corporate privacy laws (intense!) they should also offer you a decent salary as they don’t have to pay “rent” for you sitting in an office
