Hi all! I’m a newbie when it comes down to investing and I have a question. When ppl say to invest in the S&P 500 what exactly do they mean? Any examples or clarifications would be greatly appreciated.

S&P500 is an index - what that means is that this index represents the top 500 listed companies in weighted by their market cap. Hence, the index is simply a basket of all the 500 stocks.

You can’t buy or sell an index. However, there are mutual funds or ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) that replicate the same index behavior. Example of one such mutual fund is VFIAX and example of one such ETF is VOO. Both of these are run by Vanguard.
When people say invest in S&P500 - they mean invest in a fund or ETF like the one I listed. Similar funds are also run by Fidelity, Schwab etc

I appreciate you taking the time to write this. I needed this clarification. It’s been a tremendous help!

Probably mean an ETF that tracks the S&P500

This is likely not the best place for a question of this nature.

They usually mean "the market," meaning all stocks. There are two types of indexes for this: market cap weighted and equal weighted. Larger companies- Apple, eg- will make up a large proportion of the market cap weighted indexes, while smaller stocks will have equal representation in equal weighted indexes.

If you are still holding GME what is your gameplan. I am down 50% and still hoping for one dead cat bounce. I was able to sale on this Friday some of my stocks I bought around 80. GME turned out to be vary expensive lesson about why not to chase momentum plays when you don't have time to watch it whole day.

Hi! I am in the interview process for a channel manager position internally with my company. Currently I am in outside sales and get a company vehicle that I use for personal use (gas, insurance and maintenance included with a small monthly fee). The new role would mean giving up the benefit. What % salary increase can I expect with the offer? I don't want to fall back financially. My rent has also increased 10%. I'd hate to think the added responsibilities would result in an income loss for me

Random, but valid/persistent thought.

After 2 years of a pandemic and working independently for many years, I am not feeling interviews AT ALL. There are points in the interview where I want to just say "Look! Either hire me or don't".

How can I get over this feeling? I'm over the whole "stand in the line of fire to prove how good I am" bs. Any recommendations for getting over this or possible industries to pivot into to avoid bs interview processes and ghosting?

Are ARK funds' inflows propping up the underlying stocks prices?
Can someone tell me if I understand this correctly? Let's use ARKG as an example. PACB is 6.54% of fund. If the fund takes in a billion in the next week, they'll deploy somewhere around 6% of that into PACB to stay on % target. $60 million gets invested over the month into PACB. Volume in PACB in December was 34.2m shares at ~$30 for a total of 1 billion volume. ARKG took in over 400m in one day during December...
