Additional Posts in In-House Counsel
Recently moved in-house and struggling with how to document my contributions (keep a “brag list” if you will) for purposes of review season and eventual bonus/promotion/raise discussions. At a firm it was fairly easy to point to high billables, high profile deals, praise from particular partners or clients. Now I’m struggling because my work is so….day to day. Mostly negotiating typical sales contracts. Very few opportunities for visibility or high profile contributions if that makes sense.

I see you’re in Houston (same). You’ll definitely need to take the bar if you want to get a chance at any possible in house legal department position (most companies are hesitant to hire non-Texas but other US jurisdiction lawyers let alone foreign qualified only). There are a ton of in house jobs in Houston, tech may not be the biggest industry but there are plenty of others. If you aren’t looking for an in house legal department job you’ll really have to tailor your experience.
If you’d like to grab lunch or coffee sometime I’d be happy to chat about the various industries and where your experience may fit.
Would love to connect and hear more. Working for companies in Texas is not necessarily top of my list but am open to it as I am interested in working in-house. My preference would be to work remotely for companies headquartered in Cali or NY as tech is what I’m interested in. I am sitting for the NY bar but not Texas. From my crowdsourcing it’s not kind to foreign qualified lawyers & costs way more with little ROI.

I’m sorry to say it - but I don’t think they’ll take you too seriously until after you sit the bar. That being said - keep applying to international companies! I’d also reach out to any contacts you may have who work at businesses with US locations. If they refer you, it may help open some doors.
Are you in NYC and a woman? I’ve got a get together with a bunch of Aussie women lawyers tomorrow night - many of whom have been in same boat - who may be happy to give you advice if you want to come along.
Also why reluctant to take the bar?
Ah bummer ok. Can still pm me if you like.
