Hi all - I'm about a year into practicing and work full time (remote) as in house counsel. My company doesn't mind if I take on additional work, so I'm thinking about doing some landlord/tenant work in my free time. I've registered my business, purchased insurance, and now I'm looking at different marketing/lead generation services.

However...I assume that if I ever get a complaint to the ethics body in my state that I'd be fired from my full time job. More in comments.

Why would your company fire you for an ethics complaint? Frivolous complaints are filed all the time. I’d just make sure you maintain a good trusting relationship with your company and conduct yourself in a defensible manner in private practice.

I moonlight in addition to my full time job. Just make sure you do your job, research as much as you need to, and have insurance at all times.

I'm pretty risk averse...but I also want to be able to buy a house someday.

Has anyone else ever done this? What should I look out for? Am I being too risk averse? Thanks for any thoughts/experience/opinions anyone can provide.

It can be impossible to deal with financial losses due to declining health or unforeseen circumstances by not having life insurance. In these cases, the solution to your debts (that can affect the financial stability of you or your loved ones) may fall within the category of life insurance.

So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. So billable work is never constant. I feel like this has impacted my interest and stagnated my growth. I am thinking of moving into a different area of practice that I’m interested in. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise

Would you take a role that was lateral, semi step down, career wise if it had more pay and WLB? Most of me is okay with the idea I’ve just never done it before so it’s a little unsettling as I contemplate my move.

*Sealed Classes in Java 17*

The sealed class allows one to describe which class or interface can extend or implement this class or interface. In short, we can put restrictions on who can use this class or interface. Suppose we have Student abstract class and if we make it a sealed class and permit only ScienceStudent and CommerceStudent to extend the class, then only those classes will be able to extend the Student and other classes will get an error if they try to extend it.

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know.
