Hi all! I’m trying to learn more about watches to have something to bond with my dad over. Curious to know—how did you all get into watches? Any resources you’d recommend to someone completely unfamiliar with this world?

Hey! That’s awesome to hear! Hodinkee is a great website to get exposure to a wide range of watches and watch houses.

Find one or two you like and go down the rabbit hole of the watch world. Welcome!

I’ve followed these channels and learnt so much in a fun way:
Watchfinder
Teddy Baldassarre
The Urban Gentry
Hodinkee
Bark & Jack
Jenni Elle
The Timeless Watch Channel

My dad has also always been into watches and I’m now in a position where I am actually teaching him stuff myself which is great! Giving back somehow 😉😂

Ask your Dad. If he’s a watch dude he will love that you are taking an interest in it. Ask him how he got into it. What is his ideal 3 piece collection? Does he think Rolex’s are overrated? What are the stories behind his watches? What are his thoughts on the sports steel shortage in the market? Are there micro or independent brands he follows? What’s his favorite new release this year? Is they Tudor bb58 the spiritual successor to vintage subs? Why does he have/not have a speed master? What’s his favorite complication? Favorite diAl? Favorite chronograph? Favorite dress watch? What’s his perfect one watch collection?

His are good. I really enjoyed Daniel Dae Kim’s.

There are a lot of great discussions in previous posts as well. Scroll through this bowl and I bet some good things will jump out. There are also some good hard copy books, my favorite of which is A Man and His Watch.

Hodinkee, as others have said, is the best place to start. If you’ve got some time and are mechanically inclined, I strongly recommend the Watch Repair Channel on YouTube. It’s a British gentleman with the most soothing voice in the world filming close-up as he services or repairs a variety of watches, while explaining what he’s doing. Absolutely fantastic.

I would also recommend following different watch pages on Instagram (WatchAnish, DailyWatc, Whatches, etc.) You will learn gradually and get exposed to different brands and concepts (different complications) etc. Think of it as constant micro learning and pretty quickly you'll have a good understanding of brands and models.

Tim Mosso from Watchbox and ArhcieLuxury (he's lost the plot but knows what he is talking about). The rest are pretenders.

Good luck! I also just recently got into watches (last year or so) and it’s been a lot of fun and a good way to burn some quarantine time.

If I get to the max, will my annual raises continue to bump me past the band, or will I just stagnate salary until I get promoted to a new salary band?

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. She seems like a nice person but i have 0 positive work feedback tbh

One way to invest in rental properties is paying the downpayment and any renovation costs using saved up cash. I know folks also use HELOCs. So you'll end up with 2 loans. When do you pay off the HELOC? Personally I dont think taking out a HELOC is a great idea. What other strategy do you use to invest in rentals?

For the folks that left big companies for smaller ones, what drove you to make the change?
Currently I work from a very large company but work load is driving me crazy. Smaller company has some “building up processes from scratch” approach, which is also stressful. I’m unsure of the actual workload. Pay is almost the same.

Hello Fishes,

I cleared TR and MR in 3 companies but not getting any further update for more than 15 days.

What might be the reasons ?

Do I need to wait for update or start searching for other companies ?

I’ve been on high stress projects for over 6 months. I’m so sick of my team and I am just very burnt out. What to do?

I want a Tudor bb58. I have a chance to buy it overseas duty-free...but it's well beyond the US customs limit and I'd have to pay import duty when I fly back.

So the question is, what's better: pay full price plus import duty or try my best at a boutique in the US with its state sales tax and all?
