Yes those are the right advise. Get to know both firms even better. Then decide what feels right. Both great firms. You have a luxury problem. Congratulations.
If you share your cross offer news with your McK recruiter, they will probably be willing to introduce you to people who have been in this position (and chose McK). They will also be more eager to connect to affinity groups, partners, and so on. Not sure if BCG offers the same. Networking through the recruiter would be a good way to get introduced to more people and have a stronger starting network wherever you choose, if that’s important to you.
Yes, we do exactly the same. One thing I like about BCG is that promo to manager is essentially locked at 2 years - can’t be before that. So a below average performer and best in class both get promoted the same time. This is actually good, because it reduces competition with your peers and promotes collaboration and team atmosphere. McKinsey promo can happen at 15 months ... or at 39+ months. That means your focused on performance, and not your work, and makes for a more stressful life.
Fastracked higher management to partner and managing director however - high performers do get the opportunities. Pressure is just released when you’re earlier in the job.
Also, we’re nice people. I love this job because my colleagues are always awesome.
Congratulations on the offers! To echo what McK1 said, let your BCG recruiter know and they’ll be happy to connect you with people who were previously in your shoes and chose BCG.
Thanks y’all - super helpful!
I’ve worked at both and much prefer McKinsey. There are a bunch of other threads about the two already
Why’s that?
