Hi all! Is anyone here in Underwriting? Just want some thoughts on this as i’ve recently gotten an offer for an Underwriting Associate position and have never done any salary negotiations before. Does it seem unrealistic for my counter offer to be 12k more than the original offer? Considering that the original offer is roughly 8k less than the market salary. Plus i’m also accounting for wiggle room as i’m not expecting them to actually agree with the full 12k counter offer

I’ve never done any salary negotiations before but it sounds like you have already done some research. Its doesn’t hurt to try. Worse case they could say no. Best case they counter back. Your way of thinking sound like an Underwriter. Good luck and congratulations.

I have a lot of friends At Lemonade and they all seem really happy with salary.
If you don’t ask- the answer is aways no.

If the offer is 8k less than market, I see no problem asking for 10-12k more than they offered. Sounds like they may be lowballing you a bit or they expect you to counter.

Before I went on the interview, the recruiter told me they are only able to give this one salary based on my years…

Why is it so hard to get an interview as a software engineer? I’m currently working as an software engineer intern as a lead on the front end side at a start up company and trying to find my next opportunity when this internship ends, but I been applying to ton of places and not getting much interview request. I don’t think my resume is bad either. How can you get more interviews? If anyone is willing to give me a referral, please let me know.

I recently started a new job in house. Previously I’ve been at two other companies in house prior. I am in my 8th year of practice and have only done L&E during all previous jobs. I love L&E and was told this new role would be L&E.

Flash forward to starting- the role is 0% L&E and they have me doing contracts, data privacy, IP….I never would’ve taken the role if I would’ve known this is the actual area of law they were going to give me work in but I hate my new job and don’t know what to do.

I’m currently a project manager in the middle of a large project, but I feel unfulfilled in my work and honestly don’t have enough to do to fill even 20 hours a week. I probably could find more to do within my role outside of the project, but it’s not work that interests me. Would you recommend transitioning to a role that I might be more passionate about? Or wait until the project picks up more and invest more time in training the team?

I sincerely appreciate any insight y’all can bring 🥹

Salam, as Ramadan is approaching I just wanted to alert everyone about buying Israeli Mezdool dates (stolen trees from stolen land by oppressing Palestinian people). The country of origin of these packages are Israel. They’ve gotten smarter and packaging it with no trace of who and where the dates come from (which is btw illegal in USA). Yaffa and Zaytoun dates are only Palestinian dates. Please share this with your friends and family. JA

I am part of a recent acquisition in professional services at Salesforce and my role changed from people management with no utilization to billable but I’m on the bench. I wasnt looking to leave consulting and we are very slow but I’m low in the chain now and can’t do anything to grow our pipeline. Going crazy To stay busy. I know I should enjoy getting paid to hang out but I’m very anxious and getting concerned I may be laid off. Should I go to another firm or wait it out?

Does anyone know what the best option for a not-for-profit entity to invest in treasuries is? Can you purchase direct like individuals can or do need to go through a broker of sorts?

Always thought I would be with a NYC guy on fun, fancy dates in my future. Realizing now that everyone wants casual there, and in my hometown (here for covid), I make significantly more than most guys I go on dates with, many haven’t gone to college, but we have more similar interests and they are interested in a serious relationship. It feels like I’m settling and I’m so jealous of the people who do have the fun, exciting life in the city I dream of.
