Does a senior VP in a relatively "no-name" company (like Johnson and Johnson) make more than an entry level Program Manager in Google?

Is it unreasonable to ask someone from PT timezone to follow ET hours for 1 month during critical phase of the project? To be specific.. starting 9AM ET. Work day typically gets over at 6p ET or sooner sometimes, and this person makes it such a big deal and makes it sound like they are doing team a favor.

Do you ever tip 20% or more for dine in?

My manager has a must respond to my emails within 2 hours rule. Sometimes she sends them at 8pm. 3 of my team associates decided to reported her to HR for it. These new hires have no chill anymore in this economy.

As I prepared to file my notice, the partner of the firm called me and asked me to stay. They’re willing to promote me mid year in December and increase salary next year in August. The current offer I have gives 60% pay increase and Partner still can’t match that offer after promotion. Firm leadership says here I have potential to be a partner in 8 years and talk about all the leadership support I have rn which is fair. Is this one of their tactics to make me stay or should I just leave…

I consider myself a gen xer. I feel that in the past, longevity and loyalty to a company was the trend. Now, i see ppl with resumes and they stay for less than a year in a job and change jobs constantly. The younger generation and are so eager to move up the ladder. I wonder if the move up is too fast and is really justified. Or perhaps the younger generation feels a lot more entitled and are more aggressive. Thoughts?

I just accepted an offer at another big4 and I feel so blessed to be making $130k in LOCL as a 23 year old with less than 1.25 YOE. And I find it funny that I'm gonna be "senior" consultant/associate at my age and YOE. I don't know jack shit, and will completely understand if my clients/senior peers don't give me any respect at all. Thank you covid and the great resignation for this wonderous and hilarious opportunity.

I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.

For those of you who are wondering about the exit opportunities...

Is it ok to get personal in salary negotiations? For example, let the recruiter know that I’m a single parent supporting three young kids and two retired parents and I really need more money.

I know you’re rolling your eyes. But how accurate is this?

Trying to assess if an mba is worth it (25 year old male). I am a VP making $200 K in pharma transaction advisory considering moving to IB. Worth the two year hold on my career and $400 K in lost salary? It’s terrifying to go back into debt...

Just a Wednesday rant: I turned 40 yesterday and realized I've wasted the prime of my life in consulting. I neglected fam, friends and my own emotional & spiritual needs owing to the adrenaline and stress of this space, and corporate tech in North America in general. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm going to exit to something super low-key so I can finally start making some memories. Rant over. Thank you for reading.

Just interviewed a potential resource (level 9 consultant) for a role on my project. Client was present and noticed the person was very likely being coached during the interview. My Sr Mgr and I...

A lot of my close friends in Tech are SWEs and are making ~400-500k / year. I am in Consulting and make ~160k/yr. I know this is already a lot and I am super privileged, but I still struggle with comparison. I have no interest in being a SWE but I still struggle with the lesser money I make. How do I deal with this apart from aspiring for higher paid professions?

Just got an offer from McK for Associate position. Told my dad and now he says he’s not paying for my MBA since I landed this without it. Can’t believe he’s doing this. Sure, he paid for my UPenn undergrad, but MBA isn’t that much more 🙄

Client has holiday today..... but we're behind schedule so we're still flying in 😔

About to give my first interview at my old college for first rounds. Any tips, best practices? Ex: cases, or red flags to look for when talking to applicants?

New to consulting. Any recommendations for getting elite status with airlines, rental and hotels?

Has anyone tried giving up their seats on Delta or JetBlue? Is it really worth the time?

My team of 10 is located in 2 countries and 5 cities. Oh and we never physically meet the client either they are in the 6th city. So much For being a collocated agile team. Sigh! #hownottodoagile

So does anyone else have an excel sheet that optimizes hotel/airline status?

Newly promoted managers: what do you expect to learn at new manager training & did it meet expectations? Asking bc our training catered too much to soft skills for non-advisory ppl (sorry tax/audit)

My uber drive is a middle age white man driving an old ass mini van and blasting Christian rap music with his sub system. I can't make this shit up guys

Sometimes I wish I became a nurse instead 😔 adding true value to society, day in - day out.

Does anyone actually prefer a 2 wheel roller to the 4 wheel spinner? I don't get it but I still see consultants with 2 wheelers. I find it so much easier to walk the 4 wheeler alongside me.

Hangover=working from home

Just got executive platinum on American! Close one.

For the past 2 months I have had trouble accessing any non-client or company websites. I thought the client was blocking me. Turns out it was "Websense" that the company installed that was blocking me
