I'm really keen on growth and better career prospects.
It's a Snr. BA role vs Tech PM,
BFSI/payments domain vs another domain
The opportunity to build network in FS space vs exploring a new challenging opportunity as a Tech PM.
Also, this will be my first PM role.
Anyone with similar experiences of changing domain for a more senior role?
Should I wait and interview for a PM role in the FS/Fintech space ? Or take the one in hand at the large retailer?
P.S. Salary is competitive and not a big factor at the moment. I've been upskilling and very open to learning and really keen on moving out of my current role.
Any advise will be very helpful.
Thank you
Thank you PM1, any suggestions on moving into a totally new industry with Tech PM role leaving my financial services domain
I think you will have m ore opportunity as a Tech PM, especially with the high demand in the market vs. the FS space.
Thanks for your reply appreciate it.
Tech PM will be my suggestion too . I was in the same boat last year whether to take up a Snr BA or PM role. I took a leap of faith with the PM role at a financial institution and I don't regret it at all. You will definitely have a lot more exposure and opportunities as a Tech PM.
All the best for your next adventure. Happy for you!! 🙌🙌😊
Working at a bank, I see the BA positions becoming less and less available. As you modernize technology and transform into agile practices, those roles become less desired or needed on a team.
i would take the PM job and get that experience on your resume. I think if you had the combination of PM experience as well as financial services background, that would make you highly desirable!
Thank you so much, this is so insightful.
I'm also getting head hunted for Product lead kind of roles in FS and Fintech, with innovation product propositions. however I think I need a foundation as a PM first inorder to move into a Product Lead role (more strategic, leadership role).
Moving from a Lead Technical BA/Tech PO to a Product Lead would be a big jump isn't it? Hence, I'm not confident for those interviews currently.
What are your thoughts about it, please also help with any resources that you think can help me prep. Thank you so much for your help 😊
