Hi all! Recently returned from a Fulbright grant and am looking to pivot into corporate America. I've been applying for jobs but am having no luck getting interviews. I want to find jobs in consulting, social impact, or nonprofits in the DC area (I have internship experience in all those industries). Would love to hear any advice I could use to help me secure a job!

Congrats, that’s amazing! Consulting will be a bit tough, as you’ll be likely hitting off-cycle hiring at the moment for most big firms. With that said, Grant Thorton and Deloitte GPS I know have government-focused groups that do a lot of good work on social impact. Case in point: a friend of mine helped one of her consulting clients with the first COVID vaccine rollout in their state. Working for the Big 3 or Big 4 means you’ll most likely be in more generalist areas to start out with, so I’d try not to make social impact (even if that’s your ultimate goal) the highlight of your resume or cover letter.

I’d absolutely look at applying to the state department, think tanks, etc and lean on your past schoolwork. Any kind of research, publications or thesis work you did would be great to list on your resume & add links!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

I would def encourage you to have your resume profesionally optimized. That is something that really helped me secure my first couple jobs.

I'm in the last stage of the screening process for an Amazon AWS security engineer position. Due to the recent hiring freeze, I was given two options: - go through the last screening (5x1 hour interviews) and, if accepted, wait for a position to open. If not accepted I have to wait 1 to 2 years to apply again, as usual. - OR don't go through the screening and having to go through another screening process. Advices on what to do are welcome. Right now I'm more prone to go through the interview.

Hi everyone 👋
Last year I applied for a developer role at BARCLAYS and subsequently cleared the Coding & Interview rounds but something happened & the position got cancelled, so I joined a startup instead which I had kept as a back-up. But now, the latter is reducing its workforce and has given me a month's time to find a new job.
Also, I can see a few developer openings at BARCLAYS currently, so please let me know if anyone of you can refer me for this role as it would be of great help to me.

I got a job in-house 6 months after working at a law firm. I really love the work I’m doing (a little bit of everything) but am not getting the mentorship and training I should be getting. Do you think I should try to get a job at a law firm and then try to go back in-house in 2-3 years? Or just try to switch companies to get better mentorship?
