Hi all, Took the job in tax, knowing that long term I want to work at a smaller , local firm in a small town. I like the idea of having closer relationship with the client's I work with, and being a part of the community. When and how do I make the switch, and do I look to go right to a small firm next, or mid-size then small? Help me out here.

Whenever you want to, you can move to a midsize or small firm. Having more years at Deloitte won't hurt you, but going smaller sooner to get more familiar with issues faced by your future target clients. The issue will be pay. The longer you spend at Deloitte, the higher your pay will be.

Leaving as an experienced staff or senior will be easiest. I left B4 as a senior manager, that was way too late and I had a big pay cut (worth it though)

I went to a local firm in Grand Rapids, Mi. I too wanted to eliminate travel after 15 years of being gone 3-4 days a week. In 2019 I was only gone 2 days and it was for CPE.

4th year going into my 5th year and am leading discovery and case management on a case with a $5 million budget (yeah!) with a rocket docket. I’ve never been too demanding from my colleagues and usually just pick up any slack myself. Now I need to motivate others and give direction.

Hi all, I’m currently on a new team and volunteered for a project for a few weeks ago. My health has taken a turn as I’m 26 weeks pregnant and I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and severe anemia, which require weekly 3-4 hour iron infusions at the hospital. I don’t know if I should ask for help on this project or ask to be taken off. Never in my career has this happened to me. I always feel like I have to work twice as hard and always say yes. Any advice?
