Marsh & McLennan I am moving 2 hours from my office. My manager says i have to come 2 days to office. When i come to the office its only me and couple of other people. No one seems to care about coming to office. When i asked manager if i can work remote i was told that its for my career development. Can you guys tell in Canada which companies are offering remote opportunities?

There may be professional consequences for your choices but I'd put together a plan with a schedule outlining your plan wether hybrid or remote so they see you're approaching it from a professional mindset not just going against the grain.
This situation was true for me when I worked a short stint at one of the Big 4 earlier this year. The firm’s official HR stance was that remote work 100% of the time was totally fine. However, when I actually started working there, I realized that there were many older partners who, quite simply, hated anyone who wanted to work remotely full time. They saw it as the remote workers not paying the same dues that they had paid earlier in their careers. Therefore, as the team I was on was very competitive, most of the staff planned on going back into the office at least part time because of these types of attitudes. So, while HR can make up any sort of policy they want to recruit people and make the company look good, in practice, you’ll very likely find lots of unofficial biases against remote workers. This is especially true when some workers are remote and some are not. The only places I’ve seen remote work actually work well are when everyone at the company is remote all of the time.
If I hadn’t already worked remotely for the past 9 years, I’d probably be more willing to play along and go hybrid. But I wound up leaving because there were also so many other things I was misled on during the recruiting process.

I’d assume they’re telling you they want you in office 5 days a week but they won’t force you. That doesn’t mean there won’t be professional consequences, which is game playing to me. I’d walk and find somewhere less toxic to work.
Seems like a firm being input and process focused instead of output driven.
Promoting getting back together for bonding purposes is good, but 5 days per week post COVID feels like a stretch.
If you like teleworking, it means to ditch these losers and find a better company
Maybe “suggest” that you could leave and take one of the tens of millions of open jobs available right now. I think they’ll understand
Looks like “find a new job” is the popular opinion. Anyone in Canada, send referrals my way! 😂

DM if you’d like a referral - my place offers remote and has been since before COVID
What’s your workplace like otherwise, and what are your feelings on remote vs in office? For me personally I hope to never go back to a 5 days in office per week situation, so I’d be looking for something else. Fully back in person seems a little crazy, especially with so many employers offering hybrid and remote now!
Although I’d love a fully remote job, I’m okay with 2-3 days in the office. My workplace is open concept and honestly very chaotic (there’s always music on and people laughing/talking loudly) so at times it’s difficult for me to concentrate on my work. I like working from home simply so I can get things done quick without distractions!
Start passively looking for a new job. In the meantime, agree on a day with your team members that you’ll all collectively come in. Call it a team day.
Omg that’s horrible !! Leave if you can
It means you need to quit if you want to continue to work from home
They can't make you, yet. And they can't officially do anything to you if you don't. However, if a majority of the people do go back, then there are lots of things they can to do the people who don't...

Go in 2 days a week, Monday so you can appear like a team player, and one other day not Friday
I already go 3 days a week, Monday included. They want all 5 days in the office.
I don’t think your promotion will factor if your work is on point. If they wanted you in the office 5 days they would say MANDATORY. I would show up to “connect with my team and stakeholders” 3 days a week!
You’re weak, if the only thing you take away is an emoji that’s why you are not making Money and getting the promotion. Your focus is all wrong
Already happened. Why would you think anything else? All the bullshit about “does not matter where you work and long as you complete your task” is just that, bullshit. When your raise is determined by a person, there is an older saying “out of sight, out of mind”. I was the only one in my team that came back onsite (5 days a week) since early last year (to support assembly line). My raise was double those of my team members, who WFH the last two years. Hey, humans can never be objective no matter how hard they try.
I don’t think that at all. Some of my teams has young children and during the pandemic, it was hard for them to find daycare. I am blessed that I have a teenager who can fend for herself and I have an adult at home so my daughter (even a teenager) is not left alone. I volunteered to be onsite (our team supports assembly line so someone has to be onsite) so my team mates who need to be at home can work from home. Since most managers and director are on site, all they see is me onsite. When problem arises, all they see is me. So naturally, they think I am the only one who is working “hard”. I am neither a manager nor a director so I can’t tell them who should get what raises. Just saying that raises are based on reviews and reviews are done by humans, so it’s never objective.
Sounds like it’s time to stay at home and work there while searching for another job and interviewing if you want to be remote.

They can say 5 days but I’m sure the office on fridays will be empty
They want you to come in but can’t force you.
