Research shows that the top 3: More money, recognition by leadership and clear career pathing and development conversations.
C1, fair question but 40 years of research indicating the same thing isn’t outdated. As stated, this period is an anomaly. However, are people exiting because of money or for other reasons? Current research coming out is showing a good amount not happy with the new jobs because it added money but didn’t change their situation or level of engagement at work.
Happy hours? Bowling?
Here’s what matters. Giving your team
1) interesting and meaningful work to do
2) rewarding them with compensation and promotions
3) providing good and flexible WLB. 40 hours is standard but if it’s even less they’ll really start to love you
4) making the job as efficient as possible. Less red tape. Less politics. Less busy work
5) post covid remote work is the norm. Anything less seems like a sacrifice for employees
I don’t run the company? I’m literally just asking because that’s what they have offered. I was using those as examples.

We did this delivery service in our local area as a team building event. We received supplies that were delivered to our house in the morning and had an afternoon meeting. We decorated a cake based on instructions provided the service company. It was awesome to see everyone’s completed work. Mine was not cute 😂.
Tons of my former employees (I left for a growth opportunity, many years back) were happy about the company’s opportunities for volunteering together - and for every 2 days annually that they volunteered for a worthy cause, they got a paid day off to do whatever they wanted, AND it carried over into the next year, if for some reason they couldn’t use it.
Alternate Friday off for a 9 hour day over 2 weeks, every Friday off during summer, team activities like escape rooms, build a bear, scavenger hunt, boating trip, cooking class.

Crazy concept, talk to them, socialize with them, make a connection and support them.
Order them Uber lunches if you want to do something tangible.
