I joined a new team and have noticed something off with my Director over the last months (slurring speech, no show to calls or even full days of work). I finally asked a colleague about it today because I’m concerned about my Director. She confirmed that she’s noticed the same over the last few years, but no one ever says anything. Advice needed:

I am working on a 3y local contract in the US since 2.5y - long-story, but wife never made it over and now wants me to come home.

I am responsible for a major strategic product and CEO really wants to keep me (incl promotion). I can transfer back, but wouldn’t be guaranteed a job at same level. I expect better opportunities, if my CEO would push for me, but don’t know how to ask him, given that he has a conflicting interest.

How would you ask? Or just apply for jobs at home?

Anyone know how hard it would be to transition back from being a security sales engineer if I accepted the offer, and did like the job as much as I thought I would after maybe a year or so?
