Hi, can anyone help. What is the difference between a local and regional publication when you’re based in NY?

Hyper local might be something like patch Brooklyn (or a neighborhood of Albany), local might be something like a newspaper or magazine that’s really targeted for just manhattan (or just Albany), and regional might cover part of the state/the greater NYC region, crossing over state lines, etc

Ok, so for an example: I live in chicago. I’d consider a local publication something like a daily herald newspaper (probably our 3rd largest paper, behind the chicago tribune and chicago sun-times - which could also be considered local (though some might make the argument that the tribune is broader than that)). It covers chicago news and news of the surrounding communities, but doesn’t go too far south or really cover news from Wisconsin (which is only about an hour from downtown).

A regional publication might include something like long weekends magazine, because it covers a regional area - basically, a drive distance from chicago... if you google it, you see that it covers the Great Lakes and Ohio River valley region.

I’m sorry I can’t give specific delineations for you on NY media - I’m just not as familiar. But maybe try thinking of it as city news vs half the state news or east coast (including all the states) news? I think people probably consider these slightly differently, so don’t be afraid to propose what you’re understanding / thinking to your manager and ask for confirmation
