Another D mama chiming in. I presented for M->SM promo at 20wks pregnant, got promoted & got max bonus and a chunky raise a month before I went on leave. Not once have I felt shafted due to my pregnancy (in fact, very much the opposite - once I shared with my network, people became even more encouraging re: promos and told me not to worry about some aspects I had concerns about like revenue targets and client relationships). A lot of it will depend on your PMDs; mine is a singleish dad with 3 kids 2 of whom were born while at D and he was very attuned to making sure my transition was smooth and was a huge champion of my promo (even more so after I told him I was expecting). I job-shared and did a rampdown of working days during my last month of pregnancy (reducing 1 day per week starting at 36wks, with 39th week as 2 working days). My counselor was also extremely supportive. D parental leave benefits and prenatal programs are amazing. We get 24wks mostly fully paid, free 2nd breast pump and LC services, $250 if you complete a healthy moms/babies program, and for the high deductible plans u get another $500 free per year in your HSA for adding baby to D insurance. Also we have very generous ART/IVF coverage with our health plans including coverage for typically non-insurance covered meds. We have the best mat leave and benefits out of all my parent friends. Literally the only things i would change is removing the 24wk leave cap, adding more pre-delivery leave (although the rampdown was super helpful for me), and allowing unpaid leave for a full 12-24mos which frankly in the USA is a pipe dream.

Thank you so much! I actually accepted my Deloitte offer today (yay!) so hearing experiences like this is wonderful and so validating ❤️ Can’t wait to join the firm!

POV on Deloitte HC practice... First, our maternity leave benefits are unparalleled. I am personally taking 7 months off (6 fully paid and 1 using PTO), second, I've been so pleasantly surprised by the amount of support that I've gotten from HC leadership since they found out I was pregnant. I worked hard (WLB was rough because my engagement was a high burn project), but I could have easily moved to another project if I wanted to, and finally, I received the highest AIP and retention bonus while I was out on maternity leave. D isn't a perfect firm, but as a new mom, I am impressed and grateful.

I would say that normal work week would be ~50 hours per week with a lot of flexibility on when I spend those hours (I.e., starting the day later and catching up in the evening, etc.). When I was pregnant, I never worked weekends either. I would say that WLB really depends on the team/PPMDs you are working with. I was never expected to work long hours, I just did out of obligation to the team and the client commitment. Best of luck to you!

Similar experience as D1. Took almost 6 months off for maternity, got promoted to MD while on leave. I had a somewhat rough pregnancy and had amazing support from leadership whenever I needed it.

This was years ago, but then OT&T hired a woman who was pregnant (and far enough along that she was showing). No issue whatsoever. She started, went on leave, and came back and was successful. She stayed at D for many years (and promotions) afterwards. Good luck!

I heard that KPMG is really great about it

You should ask whether the maternity leave will be eligible for you if you have less than one year with the firm. We have good parental leave it’s about five months paid and you can tack on pto, but I think it’s after you’ve been with the firm for one year.

like

Thanks for suggesting this! I ended up asking the recruiter outright and you’re right. I would not get the full leave if I’ve been there less than a year (though there is some leave still allowed, it’s only 6 weeks paid). Definitely makes this decision harder.

Anyway to get points for the inconvenience, I'm Premier platinum if it matters. They did give me a free loaner carseat until mine arrives but it's kinda crappy tbh.
