Hi, currently a student planning on pursuing a career in data science. I was doing research on KPMG tax ignition and was wondering what I will learn in such role.

What you’ll learn? 😬

From what I’ve seen, you’ll learn about project management and business development. The tax technology groups right now aren’t great at teaching new technical skills... from my experience, you come with the skills you already have/know and you will muddle your way through various projects and “learn” on the job. If you want to gain additional technology skills, it’s really usually on your own time. EY offers all employees udemy which has a lot of technology courses. However, the courses can be slowly paced, so I’ve personally found that I learn best by doing random google searches and watching YouTube tutorials.

It might be different at KPMG, but I personally don’t think tax technology is a great place to start right out of college. I think building a strong foundation in tax technical skills or technology is crucial and then can be leveraged in a tax technology role. You don’t have to be an expert at both, but it will help your development if you aren’t struggling to learn both things at the same time.

Also, last thing I want to add... if you’re really interested in data science, you might be bored in tax technology. Most tax departments are in the early stages of leveraging new technology, and even then, most of tax is fairly small automation. My BIL has a PhD and does stuff with big data, and he would definitely be bored to tears with our datasets.

I’m thinking doing a modeling course will help with the no modeling experience + update my technicals? Thanks.

She asks me about salary & availability to start and says she’ll try and get an update from the team. I haven’t heard & im wondering if I got rejected

Got an offer for non-tech PgM (finance side) in Google Cloud. They told me I'm on the boarder of L5 but decided put me at L4. I also have other competing offers with higher comp than Google's preliminary offer (aka. range shared by my recruiter as comp is still working on the numbers). Thoughts on negotiation? Timeline to move from L4 to L5? Thanks!

I'm 16 weeks pregnant (1st time). My office (in NYC) is re-starting back to work in 2 weeks. I previously had an exemption for fertility treatments as exemptions were given for any medical reason. Now there are no more exemptions being given & I would need to request one from my LoB head.

I have a new team whom I have never met & if I don't go back now, I wont see them until Dec. I am boosted but my commute is about an hour including bus ride & a 25 min walk each way. What would you do?

I’m currently at a medium sized tech startup. I was interviewing for a role that would be a bump in pay and title at a multinational public F50 company. At first, the hiring manager and head of legal were very complementary about my experience. Almost too much so. After a week of interviews with the team (softball-esq), I was informed that if I wanted to join, they would bring me on at a lower title. I’m not sure about comp yet. But if comp is still an increase + experience at a public..
