You can do whatever you want, there are no rules 😬 If you currently have a UX job, you can start asking about getting more involved in UI, I would say? But if you don’t know anything about visual design in general, I would recommend that you learn solid foundations first. How much effort/money do you want to put in? That way it’s easy to know what content to recommend, if it’s free or paid. Both great options

Of course they can! It just takes practice and application. The more you do it, the better you get at it. You just need to start and learn!

I did it, but I did it years ago before there were degree programs and bootcamps and when almost every Designer came from Experimental Psychology.
I did this! Did a UX bootcamp and self taught UI. Best thing to do is practice and get feedback on your work. You could try getting someone off ADPList to mentor you as well :)

What people think is irrelevant and none of our business. Yes of course you can practice take some classes on design principles color theory ect
