Yes, the human element has been removed. In the quest to automate all the things, we are leaving many people in the dust.
Gen-X basically created the Internet. As someone that started in the .com industry in 1996, there were no degrees for what we did, we just "did" the work and most of my co-workers were college dropouts that learned to write code. If you were one of those people that didn't get a degree along the way, good luck getting anyone to talk to you today.
Knockout questions in an ATS like: Do you have a degree? If someone has 20 years of experience, but no degree- they are unable to apply (at all), they get immediately rejected. You could include this information in your cover letter or during a F2F conversation with OG recruiting.
Being required to enter graduation dates (bleh, now you know how old I am)
Personality Tests BEFORE an offer is made (neurodivergent persons can be amazing assets, but have testing anxiety)
One-way videos. I know (even worse for neurodivergents)

We do not use AI to screen resumes at Google. But I think there can be human error just as AI can screen out qualified candidates. I don't know the solution.
AI is not really a thing in recruiting- but automation sure helps address process gaps (and lazy recruiters)
It depends who you ask! I think smaller orgs do a good job of being organic but others not so much

Humans are biased and humans that build AI are biased and therefore AI is biased.
But I do think improvements should be made in the recruitment process. Too much emphasis is placed on finding someone with exact experience versus someone with the right skills for the job.
Imo the fact that recruitment/hiring AIs have been proven to perpetuate bias and racism is a huge problem with the current process as is. Companies need to take intentional steps to check and correct for bias in their processes, whether human or artificial.
Oh please elaborate on how AI can perpetuate bias and racism? I was of the through that it does not as it just looks for key words ?
Yes. AI is used as the baseline for recruitment far before any human eyes see candidates. I stress the importance of knowing a candidate without screening for keywords, because often the keywords are too vague or the AI doesn't decode all documents properly.
Right? What AI tools are you referring to???
yES 🙌🏻 it is so broken and todays recruiting methods are not modern, more traditional and biased than ever before ! Based on words than a candidates story.
Too many interviews and time wasted to get to choosing the ´right’ candidate … all the while overlooking the ones that could really excel at the position.
