Hi! Does anyone have advice on why someone should do an MPH? I’ve been interested in healthcare and service design of healthcare for a long time and designing healthcare services so that they are patient centric is a real career goal. Would an MPH help with that?

My gf did an MPH and works for CDC. Remember MPH == “Public Health” so it’s closer aligned to epidemiology vs business structures of insurers etc. Imo don’t do that Masters to “get ahead”, do it if you’re actually passionate about public health.

That’s partially incorrect, many many programs offer MPHs in Health Policy and Management in which you specifically take a look at the healthcare policy landscape and the business structure of healthcare related players (payer, provider, etc) in the US. You will likely have to take a core Epi or Biostats class, but it will be limited to 1 or so.

Check out MHAs as well. Patient centricty has become a top goal in HC, especially among providers and pharma.

No. Because profits drive healthcare, no ot patients. But an MPH would allow you to work in the field.

My girlfriend has an MPH and is now on a fast track leadership program at her hospital. For folks who didn’t get into MBB consulting, her program feeds into those firms quite well (if that’s what she wants, which, idk if it is). Other than that, she’s happy she did it. You have to go to a top school to make it worthwhile which I think you know. Happy to see if she wants to chat if that’s something you’re interested in

I think the best thing someone who wants to go into healthcare could do is have the MPH/MBA. This is her first real job out of school and her hard skills simply aren’t there and often times I’m helping her with excel, ppt, tips on communication, etc. The mph was helpful for providing an advanced understanding of healthcare. She came from a biology background, so I’d say she understands everything that goes on in a hospital/insurance works really well, but doesn’t have the hard skills. I think if BCG OP went this route, they’d be a well rounded healthcare exec

I am currently on maternity leave and returning to work in about 2.5 months. I work in PA and have been thinking about a career move lately. Has anyone successfully landed another job while still on maternity leave, and how was your experience?

Let's say I have 100k invested in a SaaS startup that went public. I'm 28, employed, have another 35k invested in ETFs/dozen other stocks and have maxed out my 401k and roth contributions. I'm bullish on the startup for the long term. Would you: 1) Recoup your initial investment pre-IPO and let the rest ride 2) Sell the full 100k, pay capital gains tax, and diversify 3) A mix of both, and if so what allocation

It seems that management doesn’t always understand that employee engagement is tied to many things such as work/life balance, benefits, workload, etc. Any ideas on how to present this type of info to management? We have already done an engagement survey and delivered results but there is lack of action planning which is also not heavily backed up by leadership. Any ideas on how to deliver this message so it makes an impact?

Looking for some MBA advice. Went to Indiana U and had mediocre GPA due to mental health struggles. Got medicated and saw a therapist and got a 4.0 my last semester. But still ended with 3.2 gpa. I am a good standardized test taker and am confident I can do well on GRE/GMAT. Given my poor undergrad GPA, am I a non-starter for an M7 MBA? Looking to improve myself as an applicant over the next year or so by seeking out leadership opps within and outside the firm. Any advice is appreciated!

Partners won’t turn down more work despite the associate exodus. I get it. Firms are businesses. But, there will be consequences. Deadlines will be missed, things will be sloppy. PSA to associates: you’re the loser here because we are in a service profession and firms make profit off of how many hours they can squeeze out of us minus our fixed salary. Put yourself first because no one else will. To those who say it’s justified cause $$$, I say no job should require us to sacrifice our health.
