I am 28F coming to 29 soon, just got promoted to Senior associates. Partner is 32. I want to dedicate times for growing my career for few more years but my parents, especially my mom been pressing for kids. My mom is having terminal illness so I understand her concern but me and my partner is not even ready. We barely just financially stable, will buy a house once we can afford, and plan for wedding soon.

I am interviewing for a new IT Manager position. I started putting out soft feelers and then hit the hunt harder. The problem: I have one offer and need to give an answer by next Wednesday. I have two other opportunities that are in final steps but probably won’t have offers by next Wednesday. Both of the other offers will be higher pay but clearly are uncertain for offers. I recently started lifting, only once a week so far since I'm only at my work (and it's free gym) on Mondays. My friend said I might as well not lift at all since I'm not doing it 3 times a week. I get I'm not building a ton of muscle, if any at all, by only going once a week but it was really discouraging to hear that. I'm not in the habit of working out yet, so should I just stop lifting entirely if I'm not doing it 3x weekly?

So I’ve been with FAANG for 5 years (I’m 30 y/o). I’m pretty comfortable with my situation. Got average grades at a good undergrad university, total comp ~300k. I’m debating Ivy League MBA. I don’t think it’ll benefit me at FAANG, but I’d like to start a company eventually. Worth it?

Do you have small talks with your manager and directs? Feel like an as*hole for not liking it. My boss likes to start our 1 on 1s with topics around family, trip plans, hobbies, and other small talks. I don’t care how his weekend was. Or his baby. And personally I don’t like sharing much about my family or personal life so the small talks thing is very annoying to me. He’s super nice and I like him a lot but I just don’t feel like we should try hard to get to know each other via small talks.

IC vs Manager. Are there major pay differences between the two? Right now, I have been offered a Principal Data Architect role which is the same pay as the Sr Mgr. I would be moving from a people manager to more of an IC role. Which is better for long term growth? Do you have to move to people management to move far in a company? I feel like at a start up it is better to be an IC due to the chaos of managing expectations at a startup. Hiring in a smaller startup is close to impossible.
