Hi everyone, considering a switch into human capital from a more generalist / finance role. Has anyone else made that switch? Did you think it was a good move? More details in the comments.

I transitioned from a finance role to human capital. There are some areas that are more niche than others - you can find super strategic work as well as detailed implementation. You can find traditional ERP projects and process design, to cutting edge projects on digital, employee experience, future of work etc. Your experiences dictate your exit options much more than the service line you belong to.

I did a few years ago and its a good area... def growing because everyone is taking HC metrics more serious.. attrition, recruitment times, competitiveness.. and then you have the actual people side with diversity, inclusiveness and grievances.. lots of space to move around .. also a big security/infrastructure aspect because youre protecting sensitive info

I’ve been working on a remuneration project for about 6 months and have really enjoyed the work, and have been encouraged by managers on the project to consider the switch. But, I’m worried that moving to human capital may limit opportunities outside of consulting, especially since I’m not sure about making a career out of HC work. To those who want to make a career out of HC work, what led you to that decision? And to those who are looking to exit, have you been able to find interesting opportunities?

For an individual entering the practice as an SC from outside of a consulting space, any recommendations to get exposure?

Really depends on the firm, but Deloitte human capital for example is not so much HR but does a lot of work involving organizational transformations (think changing the way people work, possibly involving structure changes, process changes, tech systems changes, culture changes etc). Any experiences with transformations, implementing something new, change mgmt, etc is an asset

Thanks, coming from the military I'm bringing a lot of the soft skills with HCM. The hard skills like data analytics is truly where I'm weak. Currently planning for my PMP in the fall.

Thanks!

Hey Fishes!

New fish in the pond. Had an enquiry. I had my interview with JP Morgan Bangalore for the credit risk associate position 10 days back. Went through a referral and had the VP and ED rounds on the same day. VP gave positive feedback right after my interview to the friend who had referred me.

Wanted to enquire if the hiring process at JPMC is generally slow? Haven't heard from them since then. The job opening is still on the site, dated till tomorrow.

I was debating between two offers and decided to go with company A(less money, more interesting role). But the Manager from B went above and beyond to give me better pay&connected with me personally. He is super nice and called me 3 times to give me updates and got an offer ready within a day. He even said if I don’t go with him it’s okay and he can also help me decide on other offers as a career coach. I’m genuinely upset that I won’t work with him and don’t know how tell him nicely on Monday.

About to get a call about an offer. Have been interviewing for a few different places for a change in scenery and pay increase. Offer will be for a consulting firm for a role that is adjacent/works with the group I actually want to be in, but will most likely be 50%+ salary increase.
