Hi everyone, curious if anyone has any experience going from a large healthcare company and breaking into the tech space, either tech company or startup? Any suggestions/tips to get my foot in the door? I work in Technology now at J&J, with 7+ years of experience, but exploring a career change. Thanks in advance!

I hated working for a startup! It’s too fast paced, everything changes too quickly and people tend to run around with their heads in fire. Coming from J&J to a startup may be overwhelming for you. You may want to consider established companies who would employ just as much tech as a startup but have better benefits, work life balance and security.

I would suggest reaching out to tech companies you currently work with in your role at J&J. If you have personal contacts, ask them about what it’s like to work at their company, and if they would put you forward for a position. Search on their career listings and have a specific position or two that you aspire to. And good luck!

Could always use your exp in Healthcare to work for software companies that are geared towards healthcare data analytics. My company is one and there are others.

I think it reflects very favorably honestly. Tech companies, especially startups, like to draw people from different backgrounds

Look into healthcare tech. :) With your background, you’ll already have a 1up over others.

I’m thinking about going in house like many attorneys right now. I’ve been practicing 10 years doing commercial real estate with a concentration in hospitality. I don’t want to give up the hospitality practice but I’m not sure I want to make partner at the large firm I’m at. Curious about people’s experience moving in house. Best way to apply (recruiter?) Pay cuts? Work life balance? Benefits? I can’t seem to get noticed at the larger companies who have generic resume dumps. Thanks!
