This post in another bowl started as everyone commiserating with all the rejections, but there is also some great advice, including this thread from a VP: https://joinfishbowl.com/comment_26tv643fyx
I’ve been in ops most of my career too, I’d be happy to review your resume/help you draw out transferable skills - I’m learning to do the same thing right now because I was laid off from a startup recently.
Resume
Have you had someone review your resume and write it to show transferrable skills?
I’m actually pretty open to the industry. Currently, e-commerce DTC space, with event experience. My current role is more of a split that between a director and manager position as I vet and implement new programs, and build core company structure and functions.
I would love some feedback on my resume, thank you for the offer!
Keep plugging away at it! I agree w the others - there are a lot of us out there looking for new opportunities. It appears the job market is pretty saturated with awesome available candidates. That’s not to say you won’t find something - you will it’s just harder.
As for the resume I do recommend finding someone whether it’s a free or paid that you value their opinion to give you feedback.
Some helpful tips I recently received:
1) Have a generic resume ready at all times - when you apply for jobs focusing on specific skills or experience you may need to edit your resume and make sure the focus is on the skills they are looking for and maybe less about the stuff that doesn’t relate or is t revenant. .
2) look at the job posting and then see if you can tailor your resume or at least your cover letter to the same style of writing. Use the same tag words like if they like people who can juggle multiple projects and your resume reads you have experience in project management - you may want to consider reiterating in your cover letter that as a project manager you are comfortable juggling multiple projects - get it?
3) try getting your resume to a human and not just in a portal - connect w hiring managers on LinkedIn, go Thru your networks and see if you have any old colleagues, connections or even friends of friends that you can reach out to and connect w recruiters.
4) hire a business coach or resume expert that has experience in your industry to help you with your resume.
5) have different versions of your resume on hand - tailor each to different areas of expertise, job experience or emphasis on different industries or roles. For example I have a background in visual design, digital design and experience in ux and ui - I have at least three different resumes tailored to those industries and roles.
6) take those people up on This thread that offered to review your resume.
Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate, a lot of actionable take always. 💙
