I moved here 5 years ago from Seattle, and the only thing I like about this area is the weather. The crime and homelessness is catching up to Seattle, and it feels like this area is full of dying, dead, or outdated strip malls. There's no personality here and I feel like it's behind times. Again, compared to Seattle. But it also depends where you live. I'm in the Englewood/South region. We also don't ski or board, so some local recreational activities don't appeal to us.
Sounds like the people who move here try to replicate whatever 3rd world dump they left.
I’ve met a lot of great friends here, but the dating scene is terrible. 28y/o straight male.
They call it menver for a reason. Great for gays not so much for straights. Unless you’re female of course
I moved in December of 2021 and it was the best decision I have ever made. I grew up in south florida and ended up falling in love with the mountains.
I have a huge passion for snowboarding which helps a bunch but realized I was fucked during the summer and fall so I looked for a way to stay busy with other hobbies.
Most people I have met are not native to Colorado and are people like you and me who want a fresh start and this place is perfect for it. So many out door activities in the summer and its an absolute blast.
Keep your expectations low for the night life here as it’s not what you move here for but theres still some good bars to have fun in for the occasional night out.
Ways I met my closest friends were through neighbors, friends visiting, dating apps, facebook groups and just people I have met on chair lifts at ski resorts.
For dating if you’re a guy its pretty bad here because the ratio of guys to girls is probably 5:1 so dont expect much there. Hence, the nickname Menver.
You’re welcome to DM me for any other questions you have.
Depends on what you’re looking for. There are fun things to do in the city itself. In a typical month I will probably meet friends for drinks, go to an Avs/Nuggets/rockies game, play rec volleyball, play trivia, etc. I found it pretty easy to make friends. I have been here 7 years now.
That being said, everyone here has outdoor interests so if you don’t participate in at least one outdoor activity (climbing, hiking, camping, skiing, mountain biking, etc) you will have trouble making friends.
If you do not like winter outdoor activities (skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling) then it is not worth the higher cost of living. You can live in places that have
summer outdoor activities for a lower cost of living.
Don’t.
😉😉
I moved here 3 years ago from Chicago
I’ve absolutely enjoyed the vibe (it’s like the most West Midwest city ), brewery scene, art scene, city parks (like Washington park) weather is solid , Mountain Views. Obviously it’s a great jumping off point to some amazing weekend adventures. Which has allowed me opportunities to try new activities like skiing, snowmobiling, hikes, whitewater rafting, snowshoeing
I have found a a few good restaurants, but really good ethnic food is non existent here. Going off that Colorado is very white / not the most diverse. Cost of living out here can really add up especially choices around hobbies , apartments (tons of mid luxury high rise), as far as friends go I found my tribe /real friends through meetups . I’d say friendships out here are just different. I’d see the sane friends almost every weekend we’d eat/drink. Colorado people get so busy with their outdoor hobbies. I see some good friends only like once a month depending on the season.
Overall I personally feel as if this was a good move. I don’t miss Chicago summers or lack of activities (besides eating and drinking).
Lodo would be good
I an early 30 something female done with wild parties :) if I were early twenty something I’d recommend Rino . I lived near Washington park liked it and now live in uptown (also a goodie).
Let’s put this way I don’t care to move back there .
I moved here 5 years ago from Seattle and I love it. I live in Uptown. I can walk to everything, and I mean everything. My doctor, my dentist, dozens of bars and restaurants, dozens of shops, 4 or 5 parks, the art museum, the Botanical Gardens, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts ( we have a world class ballet and symphony). The music scene is great. It was really easy to make friends. The food scene here is still developing, but there are lots of absolute gems, from hole in the wall to fine dining. When I moved here I could also afford a lot more in a home than I could have in Seattle. Not sure how different that might be now.

D bar is amazing 🤩

If you love the outdoors it is great. Jobs don’t pay market because people want to live here. There isn’t much for nightlife, because active lifestyles have people in bed by 10.
I love it here, my kids love it here. However we ski 50 days a year a cycle almost daily May-November. If I didn’t do those things I would move away.
Moved here full time in 21, and love everything about it except the housing costs. Have come to Denver as a visitor many times and always thought it would be a great place to live and we made it happen. Sports, arts, parks, golf, craft beer, and culture is amazing.
I’ll agree with the sentiment that Google 1 shared in that Denver has lost a lot of its spirit lately. 16th street mall was the place to be years ago, and now it’s mostly chain restaurants and under construction until 2025. The homeless situation is also worsening and further detracting that spirit.
