Hi Everyone! Has anyone transition to Virtual Assistant after working in HR for a short period of time? Pros or Cons? Any Advice?

I have a friend who went the virtual assistant route and eventually became an executive assistant. She loved it, said some of the same skills are needed and the workload is more "fun" for a virtual assistant if that makes sense. More varied. I wouldn't leave HR right now if you're looking to return soon, but if you want to try something new for a while go for it. Plenty of your skills should be transferrable either way.

I did it and loved the flexibility but haven't made as much money as I could have since clients were pretty stingy

The best thing about being a 1099 VA is that you have no cap to what you can make. You can make a ton if you're willing to work a ton. But that can also lead to some pretty poor work-life balance. I worked as a VA for a while but it was hard for me to separate work from home. The consistency and forced separation of a full-time position mean a lot less stress in my life.

JBHT once again proved the genius of its founder, a 6th grade educated man who struck a deal with the railroads to push van loads by rail. Today, intermodal remains king and continues to be a driver even under the crappiest economic conditions. Think of JBHT as a star player in the North American economy. You can’t escape their containers. This is a huge business and no one does it better. I’m projecting $300/share within a decade.

Thoughts on PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP certs? I have approximately 9 years of HR exp and my bachelors and MBA. Been debating on whether or not I need to fulfill my urge to get a certification. Is anyone familiar with non-profit HR? I sit on a non-profit board and lend my HR expertise to them. Our executive director is leaving and other board members want to pay a “leaving bonus” as a thank you for her hard work and say it’s common in non-profit realm. I have researched and see a lot of retention bonuses but unsure why we’d give someone a bonus on their way out and don’t want to set a precedent for doing this. Any insight is appreciated.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I experienced an agency I am a contractor with that informed me I was not eligible for medical insurance until after 30 days but actually I was eligible for since day 1. I had a colleague hired from that agency as well as a contractor who told her the same thing and so I informed her otherwise. She fought tooth and nail for them to coincides she at least was ablevto get hers.

Now I called the agency and told them I needed to know when open enrollment will be now since I was misinformed when...

I’m regularly told that they’re exceeding expectations but then they get reviews that say they’re meeting expectations on a team full of people that do way less than they do? I’ve actually been told that if there was something between meets and exceeds…I’d get that…but there not, so I get the same average performer raise, recognition, etc.

Is this normal? And is THIS what is triggering the quiet quitting movement? Let me know.

Hi colleagues!

I'm an experienced HRBP who's looking for some career advancement advice. I'm currently studying for my SPHR and looking to take the leap to HR Director roles. While I'm a strong HRBP, I've yet to manage a team. And while I train managers on people leadership skills, I myself, haven't had a chance to flex those muscles. Those in HR leadership, should I apply for HR Director roles even though I haven't managed a team?

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

I have been working in HR for 1 year now, specifically in recruiting. I am currently an in-house recruiter for a company. There is a large turnover for the position I hire for, the candidates are low quality as the position I hire for does not call for many specific skills or hard-to-obtain skills.
What sort of requirements typically need to be met to move into a different part of HR? I will likely have to find another company as the only positions above me in my company are taken by people who are very unlikely to leave in the coming 4-5 years.
