Hi everyone, would you or have you moved for a job that paid more??

I would move to a city that had opportunities that I could move to next that overall paid more. But I would absolutely not take my wife and my son across the country for just a one time thing that I was selfishly driven towards.

like

I moved 12 hours for a position that paid $16k+ more than what I was making. I was terminated 2 months later for taking time off because my 2 year old son got sick from something he caught at daycare and I’m a single mom and hadn’t met anyone in the area yet that could’ve helped me. I was in a 90 day probationary period for an “at will” employer. They said I was terminated for “excessive absences” even though they technically didn’t have to give me a reason at all.
So now I’m applying to jobs, too broke to move back and couldn’t pay rent this month.
Next time, I would definitely take precautions to this outcome before moving if it is possible.
Lesson learned for sure.

I’m sorry that you had to experience that lesson. I once took a job that paid a few more dollars and experienced a toxic environment for two years. Sometimes we need to consider the work environment over compensation too. I wish you much success in finding a job that is flexible for your family and an environment that supports single moms.

Yes but now I work where nurses are paid the highest so I can’t move anywhere else 🤣

funny

I'm a traveling nurse, but I am single and it works really well for me. I have not been partnered while I've had the job and it's been hard to meet people. But I suppose it would be perfect for people who have a partner who can move with them. And then not for those with families. But a 1 time move I would certainly do even with kids in tow!

I moved across country. It was the absolute worst job. Sued them but I won. I had to navigate in a state I hated buttttt the best part about it, if you don’t like it, you can move again

I have done so before and would do it again. Of course, no need to do it unprofessionally or to burn bridges. I've spend 3+ years at my current company so it would be a reasonable amount time after which I can move on to better opportunites.

We’ve moved twice for my husband’s work; once during the 08 recession because he simply couldn’t get hired locally. Then 4 years ago for a better paying job for him.

Personally I wouldn't move because my family is close to where I live and I get homesick easily, as much as I have the state I live in. If I were you I'd research the company hard, I just left a job I've been at for almost 3 years because of terrible management, it got worse and worse as time went on. So, I'd make sure they're not going to fire you over something small and I'd look into how their management is, after my experience I wouldn't risk the move but everyone is different and every company is different.

Yes I have. Was it worth it. Yes and no. Yes for the pay no because I’m away from family.

I would absolutely move for a better job opportunity and better work environment. I am currently seeking a new job as the work environment I am currently in is a very toxic environment. You have to do what's right for you.

I would move if it paid substantially more and if it had many opportunities in the field.

Okay let me rephrase the question, do you mean will I ever upgrade from a Hyundai accent to a Porsche if it just means moving? Of course in a heartbeat! As much as it is rewarding to do a job you love, getting paid to live a fulfilled life is also essential and yes, I will go where the money is.

I would move for a job that paid more IF it was a location my husband and would thrive in too.

I have, but it was where I wanted to live. I would not have done it if I didn’t love the area.

Offer as a talent program manager in industry $130k with 20% base. Currently talent consultant at $112k base about 5-10% bonus but up for manager this year. Worth it to stay? Or take the exit and run? T3 Midwest city. New role would have slower progression but better wlb and focus on really cool and specific talent work. Consulting role would be broader and provide the chance to manage a team. Thoughts from the bowl?

This would be my first switch..I had few doubts

1. Does my current designation effect new job level or it only depends on YOE
2. Salary should be disclosed during salary negotiation ? Or should I make them tell their offer first.
3. I'm from cyber, pentest - should I look for service based company or product based

My YOE is 3 years Any other suggestions are welcomed

TLDR: Getting over your ex of 2.5 years ghosting you after they said they wanted to reconnect.

I was dating someone for about 2.5 years and then we broke up because of COVID and the long distance was making it too difficult to continue. The break up must’ve been like a 4-5 minute FaceTime because I was very distraught. After we broke up, she started seeing someone else but I was heartbroken and it’s taken me over a year to really get over everything and process those feelings. (Cont.)

How likely is google to change its stance on returning to the office? I’m evaluating 2 offers right now - both are very similar (pay, job function, etc.) except google is in-office. I’m so comfortable at home and can spend more time cooking and exercising when I’m not commuting. Google is obviously a better brand than my other offer, but I’m not sure if that is enough to make it worth it.

I am currently a Health Admin Fellow at a leading healthcare system. I am in a phase during my fellowship where I will have to start searching for a role within the system in the next 3 months.

I was wondering what kind of role would be best step forward for an admin fellow.

I was offered a project coordinator role but feel I should not accept the same without looking at other options. I aim to seek out a project manager role and was wondering if this would be the wrong step forward.
