What’s your deficiency in cases? The math? Structuring? Creativity? Styles of different forms? First figure out the gap to close. I’d mostly practice that skill with other people - giving and receiving cases. Maybe 1-2/week. Why 6-8 months? I think targeted practice for one firm should take maybe 10-15 cases - enough to be comfortable with style and a variety of problems, not do much that you’re a robot. Before you invest so much time, do think about: How will you prepare without becoming a robot? (We can spot people who memorize and recite frameworks from case prep books. That will never be a top score.) Do you have a realistic shot at getting another interview if you’ve already been interviewing at these places? Would you be better off studying for GMAT and getting a grad degree? Would you really enjoy the job if the case prep is this hard, or would you always be behind in the team room? I don’t mean to sound like a jerk (hard to convey that with posting, sorry) - just encouraging a reality check on your time investment.

Thanks for your detailed answer. I really appreciate it. I've been asking the same questions to myself. My deficiency is mental math and being an "experienced" hire but experience in operations/IT. I've been working in Finance Transformation consulting for 7 years. I already completed my master's recently so GMAT is not an option anymore. I don't think studying for cases are hard. I really enjoy it but I want to make sure not to make mistake this time so that's why I give 6 months to prepare. Also I can only change jobs in December so I am trying to use this time wisely.

Perhaps you are competing in the wrong category of candidates. As an experienced hire (assuming based on Senior Consultant title), you should be getting evaluated more on the value you already deliver and the accretive aspects of your skills. Case interviews are often used to help vet candidates that don't have a strong enought experience based proficle (e.g. new grads). Perhaps you shouuld focus more on progressing in your current role to a point where you are able to compete on the merits of your contributions. Likely that is the same 6-8 mo period.

Rocketblocks for math, crafting cases for structure. Do a good month or two of prep and you’ll be good. 6 months is excessive

I had an interview with a recruiter for a financial company for a GC role. She explained how they were having trouble finding candidates and that I seemed perfect. Has this happened to anyone before where the recruiter thinks you're perfect but the hiring manager will not?
