Pat yourself on the back for landing the interview. That means your resume stood out amongst other applicants. The anxiety is valid because you want to be your best. Is the interview in person/phone/video? I did a few things seemed to help my anxiety & build confidence. (I often freeze when I get anxious) Look up common interview questions & answer them on a note pad ahead of time this way You can review them again to refresh. Pause before answering the question & if you’re not sure what they’re asking, have them clarify. Avoid over explaining, notice the tone/pace of the person interviewing you- this can give you insight on how you can showcase yourself, establish at the beginning how they would like to be referred as, ask how much time is set for the interview, ask if there will be portion where YOU get to ask questions. Take as many many Deep breaths before time & shine on!! Good luck!! ☺️
Thank you for such a detailed reply! The first interview is just a phone screen so it shouldn’t be a big deal - - but I’m very anxious about my lack of consulting-oriented experience. I know the phone screen is just the beginning and it’s just as easy for me to lose what I’ve gained; I know if I try my best, am honest, and the recruiter doesn’t think I’m a good fit, there’s not much I can do. I guess just from that anxiety, it’s hard for me to project confidence 😰 I want the job, but I hardly feel qualified!
High anxiety person here. I recently got 2 great pieces if advice that were life changing. #1- What if it all works out? Don’t focus on what if it doesn’t, but rather what if it indeed does!
#2- Mell Robbins says count 5-4-3-2-1 and have an image that anchors to things working out. I recently interview for a great job after a company called with an offer that wasn’t great. They put me down to get me cheap and I had no confidence. These 2 items the morning of my bug interview were like magic. Sending supportive vibes!
Congrats on landing the interview! Sounds like you're coping with a high level of anxiety. Try to remember that even if the worst case scenario happens (you bomb the interview and lose the opportunity), that it's not like your career is over and all hope is lost, and there's just as much a chance that this is only your first "big break" of many or that not getting this job leaves you available for an even better opportunity a month from now. Breathe, do things that calm you down before the interview, use practice interview questions to prep - you've got this!
Ty for the reply. Unfortunately they ended up ghosting me at the interview, so it seems like the worst case scenario did end up happening 😆 I’m just mad at all the time I put into research and preparing, sighs
That’s a useful way of thinking! Ty for sharing
