Hi everyone! I’m a current middle school counselor looking to transition. I got an interview with a private university for a position as career counselor. If all goes well I’m worried about my current situation being 3 months pregnant. If offered the position any advice on what I should do, questions to ask, negotiations, basically any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Lawyers can’t give out legal advice over the internet. And this bowl is for women in law to seek career advice from one another and share/commiserate with each other about career experiences/stories/issues - it’s not a forum for legal advice. Your best bet is to do some Google research yourself, maybe ask trusted friends/colleagues/family about their personal opinion/experience, and if all of that isn’t sufficient, pay an attorney for legal advice. Good luck.

I wasn’t asking for legal advice.

Exactly what A2 said. You posted in”Women in Law.” You’re not an attorney. You literally said “any and all advice would be appreciated.” Seems like legal advice to me. And I’m assuming most other people agree, since no one responded to your post until I did 6 hrs later. Anyways, this probably isn’t the place for you to get your answer, but best of luck!

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

I have limited privacy experience despite being hired for that reason… Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Remote preferred; hubs is pilot with cool intl transfer opportunities. Money isn’t issue.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

I quit. I was respectful. Thankfully, every person I have told has been so nice, and I wasn't immediately bounced out by my leadership (which has happened), but I have been surprised by my own bittersweet tears. If they actually cared, why didn't they say so sooner? I gave so much, and I was consumed by this organization. I invested in them, but my investment and dedication were not reciprocated, which is why I ever even entertained leaving. I don't know why it hurts, but it really, really does.

I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. I’d like to have some sort of data to back up what I recommend. TIA!

Discovered major pay difference between myself and two new male hires with equal experience. Asked for a raise and was shot down due to Covid and essentially told they make more (were talking a 30k) bc they don’t have my “other responsibilities” aKa my two kids. I know my productivity is effected by parental responsibility but I don’t feel that alone justifies the difference. I know our billable output isn’t drastically different. Not sure what my next steps should be and welcome any advice.

I am purchasing a home and my boyfriend wants in on the deal as a co-owner. It is only me on the mortgage. We are planning on writing up a co-ownership agreement with a 60%/40% split and yes he will be paying 40% of the mortgage, down payment, and property taxes etc. He wants to be on the title as a tenant in common to reflect that %. Is that fair? I just want to make sure I’m protected but I also understand that if he’s paying all this money, he wants some security as well

Advice needed! I started at an ID firm only a few months ago after a long stint doing in-house litigation. I was referred to the firm by a very good friend who also still works there. A management position at my old in-house firm has now been offered to me. Higher salary obviously and no billables. So I posted a bit ago about getting IV hydration and vitamins. You guys gave me the courage to try it. After I had it done, I didn't feel much of a difference and figured I just spent a bunch of $ to relax for an hour in a massage chair. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But this has been the best week I've had energy-wise in the last seven months. And I kind of wish I could post before/after pics because apparently I was very bloated. I've been focusing on keeping up with my hydration at home. Thx ladies!

Associates, how did you balance your morning sickness and fatigue in early pregnancy with work? Thankfully I’m still WFH, but worried about receiving insane turnarounds that require me to stay up late/all night and the effect it might have on the baby. I’m past my hours for the year and feel like I should be able to say no, but the team I’m on has a tendency to push past no’s.
