Hi everyone! I’m a young CPA, relocating to Raleigh. I made the decision to transition into sales after realizing that I want to bring more fun into my career. I’m currently reading sales books, watching Keenan’s YouTube channel, and learning all I can. I’m relentlessly applying for SDR positions but I’m having trouble landing interviews (been applying through LinkedIn). I would appreciate advice from anyone who transitioned from another industry into sales. How did you break the barrier?

Aim lower, tell your story in a way on your resume that is a unique value proposition. I joined a tech staffing firm, framing my industry experience as a way to connect with clients in that industry. They mostly hired kids fresh out of college and I took a huge pay cut, but it got my foot in the door. It was basically like a wolf of wallstreet type culture, but working at a place like that teaches you how to sell, although it is easy to burn out. Within a few years I have increased my TC by about 10x, which nearly doubled the most I ever made in my previous industry... Hope this helps, and good luck!

Make it a numbers game. PM me.

I did something similar a year ago, came from big 4, transitioned into a pre-sales solution engineer role. If there are any software experience in your current role, I’d recommend applying for similar roles at those companies as they value user experience from a storytelling perspective

Hi Fishes. I am new to consulting (1YOE only). I am interviewing with multiple firms, looking out for best opportunity. I wanted to ask if I should tell the recruiters that I am interviewing with other firms as well or not? Was confused to tell or not. And if yes, should I tell them the companies as well if they ask?

Hey Consultants. I just might have a Bain interview coming up in a few weeks. So far I have had 3 R1s of the other two MBB but got dinged. I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I need help as I call this the “last dance” so far I have done 40+ live cases with MBB consultants.

Damn. Was lucky enough to land an interview. The interview went numerous rounds, it was super positive, so then I decided I would be 100% honest about something I wasn’t good at, in hopes of being clear that I was ready to grow. Then I got ghosted, and I think it’s because of the said honesty. Feeling low and stupid for ever admitting a “fault” in an interview instead of just telling them that I’m perfect.

This may be just a naive/dumb question, but how do you relax when you’ve got a really stressful file? I’m a junior and I’ve been putting in ~10ish billable hours a day recently, which is more than I’m used to. The evenings (post-8pm) are generally my time to decompress - read a book, watch dumb tv, whatever - but it’s been all work lately until 10 or 11pm and I struggle to go straight from work to bed. Internally transferred into FDD as an audit senior 3. My coach and partner have indicated that I’m still eligible for promotion to manager based on years of experience. I’m trying to gauge the actual likelihood of this happening. Obviously firms bring in audit managers at the manager level with no FDD experience but would love to know if it’s possible/likely to be promoted to manager with less than a year of experience. I’d advise anyone in audit to transfer sooner rather than later!
