Hi everyone, I’m an internal recruiter with 6 YOE, and a degree in Marketing. I’m wondering if anyone here changed career trajectory after being a recruiter, and where did you end up. I’m trying to figure out my future. I love being a recruiter but I hope to evolve professionally and financially and not sure what type of paths I can go from here.

Where do you want to go professionally and financially? Recruiting can lead to roles north of 200k internally and there are million dollar billers on the agency side. You can lead recruiting operations or strategy for a big org.

If you're interested in getting out of recruiting/HR completely you may want to consider Digital Production roles within agencies. You may have to take a step back initially but once you're grounded and learn the world you could see significant growth! Or, if you're wanting to stay in the HR realm start to position yourself as an employment culture and employer branding expert.

That’s very interesting! I do create content somewhat and I think this would be something fun to get into. Any idea of agencies I should keep an eye for that?

Recruiting marketing! Could be great niche for you, lots of room to grow and talent market is booming so this is too.

Have you considered talent branding? Tons of marketing teams could leverage someone with your experience to develop marketing strategies for attracting talent.

In fact, I have. I do a bit of recruitment marketing for my current employer, and I love it. It’s definitely an area I have interest moving to. But I’m finding a hard time getting the experience necessary to make the switch fully and without getting a pay cut. But yes, I’m considering.

Start learning other elements of HR and you can move towards management. An industry shift could allow that - non-profits or smaller companies need generalists where you can take on a lot more and grow quickly. Once you're a good manager, you've got lots of options for growth.
If you love recruiting, you can earn a lot - where are you now? You can easily make 130+ as a recruiter or senior/executive recruiter, 160+ as a lead or manager. And if you get into FAANG, you can be at 200-300. So if you love the work, you've got options for growth.

I do love recruiting, and I’ve tried to get into tech but without the experience it’s been tough. When you say easily 130+ where do you mean? Any specific industries? Thanks for the tips!

I’ve gotten so fed up with recruiters and hiring managers all together. Companies can’t even speak about their value before they’re shoveling KPIs down your neck (only thing the older workforce cares about now, even though most people fake activities). The disconnect from 35 and under to 35 and older has grown significantly in the last few years. All younger people want is a place they can grow and all the old folk do is take in record profits / lay off younger people.

Hey! I was affected by the recent tech layoffs (at Stripe) and was curious what others have done to get back on the horse quickly. Open to any and all suggestions! Currently I’ve been scouring Builtin which has yielded a few interviews here and there, but overall I feel like I’ve been moving too slowly . Thanks in advance!

Today's tip: Your resume (and cover letter) should target the specific position. The easiest way to do this is to edit your professional summary and key skills sections (which should comprise the top third of your resume) to reflect the qualifications required or desired in the job posting. Be honest – only reference those skills you have!

Advice for getting past burn-out.
I’ve been a recruiter for 20 yrs, but am still young. First 10 yrs were Corporate TA; most recent 10 are with Agency. For the majority of my career, I’ve been passionate about my job. I navigated the highs and lows and was always enthusiastic about starting each workday. We recently had leadership changes that affect me negatively…. But my job is still intact. However, I have lost my mojo. Reviewing Recruiter job postings does nothing to inspire me.

I would like recommendations of staffing agencies to start a career in recruiting. Hi! I requested a raise in late august and am still waiting on confirmation. Last update was 3 weeks ago from my boss who said he put in the request and is still waiting on approval. I can’t help but think they’re just delaying until the new quarter which is the normal raise period. Is a month and a half a long time to be waiting for this? And if it is approved is it reasonable for me to ask for “backdated pay” to when I originally asked?
