I am not at SFDC, but I can tell you from my personal experience, that working and being the QB/owner of your account base, like an SMB AE would do, will yield you better experience of how to handle situations on your own and the compensation from where I work is better as an SMB AE vs Ent. AE helper.

Absolutely agree with this. If you're not really confident in your ability to run your own accounts, you can go for being the "Little AE." But career wise, it would be better for you to go for the straight AE role.

I am interested in tech and have narrowed down to Gibson Dunn, and the tech trio of Wilson Sonsini, Fenwick, and Goodwin. I am concerned that I am going to a firm that isn’t top 10 will hurt my career in the future. I have loved everyone I have spoken to at Gibson Dunn and love that I can do tech transactions, privacy, and some later stage emerging company work( Series D/E and later). I am concerned I won’t be working with true startups like in the others. Any thoughts? This is All in New York.

In comms structure, what do you think of this?

Brand new client - 25% of new-client fees for 6 months. Plus a 3% trail commission after the client has been with us for 12 months
Referred client - (where you have helped in the process) - 10% of new client fees for 6 months
Upsold client - (where you have helped in the upselling) - 25% of upsold fees for 6 months

Never had a trail comms structure before…

I’ve created a strong network with Senior Lvl Execs @ my current company, and work on high level task forces to develop enterprise biz. I’m ready to move beyond the AE Role, but not into traditional sales leadership. I’ve also been interviewing b/c our systems are a mess currently. On the verge of getting offers higher than my current pay, I’d be starting from 0 with building reputation, book of biz, etc. My exec mentor suggested I pitch new roles & $$ and she’ll endorse. Thoughts?

Non-exempt employee? After interviewing for a sales position for a SaaS company, I received an offer. The recruiter made it sound like it was a salary, when I received the offer, I come to find out that they pay “hourly” as a non-exempt employee. Has anyone ever worked as a non-exempt employee before? I think I’m going to dislike tracking my hours. They do pay “overtime” though.
