Hi everyone! Junior associate in big law here. My wife got a job in Chicago and we are looking to move there by January. I am not licensed in Illinois yet but will be taking the bar in February. My firm is allowing me to lateral to our Chicago office but mentioned that “I needed to be bared before we can do that.” Anyone here know if I can still practice starting in January until I get my results back? Cloud folks, what's better certification for someone highly skilled in security but low skilled in cloud, ccsp or ccsk?

Hello! I have an MBA and am working on a DBA. Change Management (most likely as a consultant) is my goal, but not a lot of opportunity for this kind of work exists in my area. However, as it did for many others the pandemic changed a lot for me. I am now able to be remote, relocate or even just travel a lot. I have worked for the last 10 years, but most of my experience is in business management. I am needing advice on the best entry roles or development programs to break into the field!

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

I have a client where the two times I talked to her on the phone she basically told me I’m the worst attorney she has worked with. I told the partner about the difficulties that I am having with this client and the partner said she has not complained about me to him (at least yet). But I also told him if the case doesn’t settle (early stage settlement attempt), I want off this case. It’s a two way street for me and respect.

How do you say, “I have too much on my plate”? Not responding that you’re at capacity when someone tries to give you more work, but telling the people you work for that your current workload is too much and something needs to shift elsewhere. At this point I don’t care whether my “too much” is someone else’s “just fine.” All I know is I can’t keep doing what I’m doing. The mistakes I’m making just trying to keep up are getting bigger.

How hard is it for an associate to get fired in big law solely based on low billable hours? How many years do they need to be low? How many chances do they get? How low is too low for a second chance the following year? This is assuming quality of work is historically good and not their fault they have little work.
