Hi everyone, just moved to the USA, I have a bachelors degree from another country and I’m looking for a job right now in HR, I basically have 2 and a half years as a full time intern ( really a specialist position for the amount of work and stuff I used to do, but stayed as an intern until I got my degree) and then got promoted to HR Assistant for about 3-4 months. I don’t know now that I’m here how much I should say when asked about desired salary, I’m in upstate New York

Factor in the cost of living where you are when considering salary. Fishbowl can help you to get the idea of what kind of pay can be expected (ignore the insane numbers and stick with the middle ones).

The cost of living might be deceptive at first, so you need to calculate that. Consider Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Food, shelter, clothing...factor in those first then leave some for luxuries like gadgets, home stuff, coffee, travel and you're good to go.

Can't give you a solid number but that would depend on your daily living expenses

I had my first interview today for a director position I would consider a dream role, and it went well. They want me to talk to the VP, but I found out I would definitely have to relocate to a different state to execute tasks.

The salary is within range of what I would accept, but I just moved to a different state.

I want to leverage this, and follow up with the hiring with another place (similar position in my current city and state) I haven’t heard from yet. Do you think that’s wise to do?

I doubt I’ll do it this year during the pandemic but want to start exploring this as an option.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m worth. I’m a director / editor who works directly in-house at an agency. I’ve directed several (roughly one a month) broadcast spots in the last year for a national fast food client and I’ve also edited those spots among editing other random national spots in-between. The production budgets range from roughly 200k-500k per shoot depending on how many days it is. I get paid 75k yearly which is feeling pretty low when I do the math. Is that fair?

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?
