That’s a red flag to me. They don’t see your skills as valuable, you’re just a number on hiring goals? I wouldn’t even be waiting anymore at that point.
I feel attacked but you’re totally right 😂. I’m just burned out. I don’t have energy to interview anymore and was really hoping I’d get this for the short term
This is happening at a few companies. There's nothing you can do to spend up the process; it's a budget thing.
I always tell ppl this, you should be still interviewing even after you start a new job until you're convinced you like the job. (~3-6mths into the new role.) So, go back to job hunting & interviewing.
I know it's not ideal, but maintain your energy a little longer. ❤
Thanks for the context OP, but idk about them specially. I just know the market. Companies did a lot of Q1 hiring in anticipation of revenue, but Q1 is always the least stable. And with the market shifting due to everything that's been going on, companies are just trying to do a quick reassessment so they don't fully their revenue targets.
I'm sure Slalom isn't alone in that especially because consulting revenue can often take longer to book so the anticipated revenue can slide.
But that's why it's good to still keep interviewing. Think of it like dating lol
Huge red flag. Agree with booz Hamilton said above. Also that they’re « trying to find you a project » means their project pipeline is not good - they probably suck at selling projects. Otherwise no matter when you who in there should ALWAYS be projects for you to do. Successful consulting firms where you’ll learn a ton and have good exit opps are those that have more projects than people to do them, not the other way around, especially in these times. It’s still ahoy market. All top consulting firms are over sold. Only really poor performing companies don’t win projects.
Isn’t April 1 Q2 ? …
I also see this as a red flag.
1) Businesses with successful growing business are often in need of new talent to support initiatives
2) They should have an operating budget to have unstaffed people assuming they’re already volunteering to interview them
3) Giving a verbal offer without a written offer is leaving a candidate hanging and disrespecting their time. If they haven’t even given you an offer, they can’t keep a hold on your time. They’re trying to squeeze their financial books in their best interest and not on their employees’ which is a big no no in my eyes.
Hey purchasing agent I totally understand. I’ve been in your situation. I took the first offer I got after 6 months of unsuccessful interviewing and my then-current company immediately, but the new offer/company turned out to be a bait and switch, and in retrospect I wouldnt have accepted the position. You can take PTO or an unpaid leave of absence at your current firm for a month? Even two weeks would do wonders to your mental health such that you will recover the strength to keep pushing.
