You just try to learn as much as you can from the experience and keep moving forward; it's all we can ever do in the face of failure. 7 rounds is crazy though, these hiring processes are getting out of hand.
For an executive role I’ve had up to 12
I am so bummed on your behalf. Going through 7 rounds is a huge accomplishment in itself. This experience has prepared you for even better role suited for you in future. The soft skills you’ve learned subconsciously are valuable and will come handy at the right opportunity. So all in all…great work at getting to the 7th round. Best wishes for your future success.
Exactly what I tell my daughter interviewing for new grad roles. She aces 2 technical interviews and they come back with ok you have moved to the final round which is 2 more technical screens.
Been there.
This makes me not want to work for someone else.
Becase you either stick with the same job for a long ass time, or this is what you have to go thru every time you want a new job. Always have to demonstrate your worth to someone else in this crazy ways.
This what keeps me motivated to launch my biz asap. Im not gonna deal with this forever.
If its hard as a young medior dev, i can only imagine when im 50. No thx
In the back of my mind it comes as a response to too many employee protection laws from the gov: if its hard to let go of employees, then the employer wants to garantee they get the best one from the get go.
The laws meant to protect the employee, come back to bite the employee in the arse.
Similar to tenant protection laws here in the NL.
If a tenant rents the same place for 2+ years, they get special benetis (namely: its harder to evict them)
Guess what. No landlord does more than a 2 year contract now.
Same phenomena
So sorry to hear that. 7 Rounds is insane. A small silver lining is the amount of experience interviewing you got. At the rate I’m going that would take a few years. 🤨
You dodged a bullet if they had 7 rounds of interviews there will be a multitude of other ways they will prove they don’t value your time.
As cliche as it sounds, everything happens for a reason and you might not know what that reason is now, but you will understand why in the future. This exact thing happened to me interviewing for my "dream role" - got to the final round and was told I was the leading candidate, but ultimately didn't get the role and it felt like my world closed in on me for about a month or so. 6 months later, that failure funneled me into the direction of a different company in the same industry which propeled my career beyond belief. The role that I "missed out" on, ended up having a massive re-org and leadership change a year or two later and many people got axed (which very well could've been me had I have gotten that role).
It wasn't meant to be and it may become apparent in the future why it actually benefited you for this role not to work out.
How many months was the process?
I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this but what I will say is congrats also. Making it that deep into the process means you have the skills and knowledge needed for the job. I would ask for any feedback the recruiter/interviewers can give you and start prepping for either the next chance you get with that company to the next company you apply to. We all face rejection at points in our career but it’s those of us that pick ourselves up and keep going the really do achieve the dream
I went through 11 interviews with the same company, they kept bouncing me around departments because they couldn’t figure out the best fit with my skill set. They ended up not going with me but like many others have stated, learn from the process. Eventually I learned to enjoy the conversations and make contacts that may serve me in the future
Well done! You can be proud about what you achieved! Ask what was missing and check who got it but then move on and use the experience for the next role.
You just dont let your brain tell you that you’re devasted. Thats your brain making stories for you. This is life, this is how it is. You get stronger each time.
After interviewing you for the 6th time, If the company/employer is not sure about hiring you. There’s a problem with their hiring process. Move on to the next company on your list -Your dream job is only as good as your next job.
Go to their competitors. Your skills would be relevant and you would have a good chance of getting in. If you made it thru 7 rounds, you obviously had something they liked. Don’t change anything. But seek out their competitors. Keep knocking, someone will let you in. Just don’t pause.. this could allow depression to set in and change the game (and your outlook) and you don’t want that. Just pick up the pieces and go for it. Be a strategist… make a way.
Remember that failure, if properly addressed, is success in progress. You will find a better job if dig in and learn to know you better.
If your dream is a job you’ve got problems
I work never wait 7 rounds
I usually take a day to drink heavily and yell at my resume. Then, I critique my choice of clothing and hair style. I convince myself that there is something deeply wrong with me that everyone notices. That’s been my routine the last couple of times.
You need to realize that it was not your dream job, your dream job is what you make of a job when you have it.
That’s ridiculous. You’re probably lucky.
I just went through nearly the same thing. All you can do is give yourself time to mourn and then start fresh. It’s the only way to make it.
It’s ok what’s meant for you won’t miss you.
That’s extreme. You should get paid to be on so many dang interviews.
