Laid off in July 2020 and have a standing offer to join a company I'm not crazy about. Is it better to take the role, continue search on side, but be faced with external companies asking why I'm looking to leave so soon? Or, decline and keep searching?
I've noticed an uptick in jobs since the new year and no issues getting interviews. Financially, UC ran out and stressing a bit on tapping savings but still in a decent position.
Were you going to move to DC anyway, or are you moving prematurely for this job that you haven’t been offered yet? If offered the job, the company might give you a relocation package. I think being transparent about being able to move there quick and actually moving there are two different things and it depends on what exactly you told them. If they thought you’d be willing to relo instead of knowing you were going there anyway, and all of a sudden you’re in DC it might come off as weird and over eager.
I already had plans of relocating back to DC. Though, I believe they may not know the full scope of this. My current company is headquartered in DC, I came from DC to CLE back in February on a relo to work in a location out here. They know about this background.
That’s a fair point about not wanting to come off as over eager. This is what I want to avoid.
I would highlight why you want to join the company in particular and culture
Motivation and interest are areas that are underrated during interviews
The big WHY is very important
If you’ve already done that I could certainly keep following up and just give them a final highlight on your interest and 1-2 technical points on your fit
Leave it at that if you’ve made it to round 3 you can only wait after have they highlighted anything on relocation costs ? Companies don’t want to pay that if they can get someone in the area if you add that doesn’t need to be covered it could help all depending on what your situation is
