Hi fish - Heading to Austin with a group of friends (couples) in a couple of weeks. So far we have Uchi, Emmer & Rye, and Hestia booked for dinners (Fri-Sunday). I’ve had Uchi before and know it’s great so definitely want to keep this one. Are the other two good? Anything else to consider?

Otoko is the best Japanese place and it’s not close

Yeah but there’s no way they’re going to be able to get a group reservation there for a couple weeks from now. That’s like suggesting they also take a rocket to the moon while they’re in town.

I looked at the responses and noticed I didn’t see sway. If you like traditional Thai .. then I recommend Sway! It’s classy too

Hard disagree lol. They used to be good but fell off hard

I would skip hestia and instead do one of our higher end Mexican places like Comedor, ATX Cocina, Suerte or Fonda San Miguel.

Fonda San Miguel is always a crowd pleaser

Go to Juan in a million for breakfast!

like

Based on where op is going for dinner, do not go here

like

Odd Duck and Barley Swine are also great IMO

like

I personally think Soto is better than Uchi

like

+1 for Soto, and they have a full bar! I avoid Uchi and Uchiko for this very reason.

Lucky robot for a less chain-y sushi place than uchi.

like

Neighborhood sushi is legit terrible. Chooatx is good but pickup only.

I thought Hestia was a bit overrated. Most of the dishes were great, but the steak was really tough for some reason (despite being medium rare). Agree with Odd Duck and Barley Swine as alternatives.

like

Hestia dessert is good. Food I wouldn’t go if I was paying for it. It’s good but overpriced

Loro is a good casual option

If you can get a reservation, Canje is really fun. Caribbean food and a nice space.

like

Can’t forget about the one and only Matt’s El Rancho

like

Add Tiki Tatsu-ya for HH or late night drinks for sure. I'd also skip Hestia and opt for some of the recs in this thread.

Def make sure you get some classic BBQ - Valentina's is a great option if you're willing to go south.

like

Loro has always been a good experience for food and vibes - it’s franklins bbq and uchi chefs collab. Very casual no need for rezzies. Hestia - agree could pass as there’s so much good food. Comedor is great

like

Jeffrey’s, Barley Swine, Launderette for brunch

Uchiko over Uchi

Suerte or ATX Cocina! Aba if you haven’t been and can get a reservation. Here nor there for drinks.

Suerte is a little overrated but still a really fun place for a group. I think Aba is wildly overrated. And it’s not even an Austin born place. I like whipped feta as much as the next person but it’s fine?

Italian: Red Ash, Il Bruto, Intero
Casual: Loro
Coffee: Mozart’s, Greater Good
BBQ: Interstellar, Terry Blacks, La Barbeque, Franklins

Red Ash is great but not a good rec for a weekend visitor since it’s so hard to get a table. I just booked a random Sunday in late January to avoid eating at 4:30pm😂

Olamaie is always good.

Lenoir, Intero, Barley Swine

Has anyone tried pasta bar?

Awesome, thanks! have a reservation in a couple weeks although it’s the 195pp option, not the chase one. Sounds like it will not disappoint

Uchi and Emmer & Rye are excellent.
I'll second the comment about skipping Hestia and replacing it with Fonda San Miguel or Comedor.
And for a 3rd, Barley Swine is my favorite restaurant in the city.

Anyone in Chicagoland have a therapist they love? I've tried a few, and it's just not working. I really need someone who specializes in ADHD, and they all say they do but then it just ends up being cookie cutter therapy that's a lot of talking but no changing.

I think I'm looking for someone that will do some coaching along with the talk. Like I need homework assignments is basically what I'm saying. Anyone have a line on someone like that?

Hi everyone! I’m currently looking to branch out of law enforcement, and ideally government, so I figured I’d post here to see if anyone has any advice on how to make myself more marketable as someone with such a niche resumé. My background is focused heavily in intelligence analysis for law enforcement and government agencies. I like to think I’m pretty adaptable and can pick up on the use of different databases fairly quickly. Any advice is appreciated! :)

I’m in SC by the way!

Considering a move to Austin from Boise, ID. I currently live in Downtown Boise enjoying a comfortable, lone wolf lifestyle. If I move, I would be living in a suburban neighborhood 30mins drive away from Downtown Austin.
Being in Austin would mean I’d be much closer to family, friends, and it would be gold mine in terms of career growth (several reasons).
On paper it sounds obvious to pick Austin but I’m anxiety prone and in a dilemma whether I‘ll end up regretting leaving my current lifestyle.
