Hi Fish, today I was presented an opportunity to work as the primary point of contact for a public company doing commercial transactional work (mostly spillover and work that their in-house team may not want). It would represent 25% of my monthly billables. Is this what people refer to as a secondment? Is this arrangement desirable? Does it increase my marketability to lateral to a larger firm? Currently, at a smaller firm.

A secondment is whete you leave your firm to go sit with and be part of a client team. This is just getting heavily staffed. Sounds like a good opportunity though, if you like commercial work.

like

Not a secondment because you are still working for other clients. If you like the people and the work go for it. It may help moving to a larger firm if you can carry the business with you, and may give you a feel for in house life as well.

In Mindtree -- After completing the pre-onboarding process(Document upload and signing documents) , Can we try negotiating for counter offer? If it didn't go well can we say i'll not be able to join the company?

That moment when your "smart" plan to boost your hours this month by working the Labor Day weekend (thus turning down all the fun plans your friends made) becomes sitting on your hands & feeling dumb because all the partners are too busy to delegate anything. M&A Hours Check. What’s your year end target looking like? Think about 80 percent of the firm’s group is not going to hit hours. Not sure how sustainable this is. Definitely have great leadership that are swallowing the brunt of it, but I’m curious if any survivors of 08 ever had a really bad hours year and still survived. Obviously M&A takes the brunt during these times, but are firms thinking that they want to be poised for when things return back to normal or are they about to let the ball go
