Hi Fish, today I was presented an opportunity to work as the primary point of contact for a public company doing commercial transactional work (mostly spillover and work that their in-house team may not want). It would represent 25% of my monthly billables. Is this what people refer to as a secondment? Is this arrangement desirable? Does it increase my marketability to lateral to a larger firm? Currently, at a smaller firm.

M&A Hours Check. What’s your year end target looking like? Think about 80 percent of the firm’s group is not going to hit hours. Not sure how sustainable this is. Do you bill for every email you send to a client or only substantive emails? I still struggle with this, so I wanted to get the thoughts of others.

Can you guys see how much you bill everyday, like some program or something on your computer tells you, 4.5 hrs today or 9 hours today? My firm gives it to us on paper at the end of every month and thats it. Im a first year associate and wondering how everyone keeps track through out their week/month/ or year of their billable hours??

Has anyone ever tried going for therapy without knowing exactly what they’re trying to fix? I don’t think I have any diagnosable problems (to my knowledge), but I get caught up in my own head sometimes and get bogged down with anxiety/ self-esteem issues.
